I have been avoiding the talk of politics on this board as my interest in being active on the board is firearms, not getting into politics, however, this thread really struck a nerve with me, and as such, I figured I would lay out a few of my general beliefs in no certain order.

Trading civil liberties for “safety” by the passing of patriot acts 1 & 2 was an abomination

Gay marriage – Government should not have a say in it. Two people should be able to do what they wish

Abortion – Decision for woman and partner, not government

Taking a job as a fireman, cop, or soldier doesn’t instantly make you a hero, any more so than being black makes you a criminal, a jew makes you a banker or muslim makes you a terrorist

The militarization of our police force is counter productive

Marijuana should be legalized

My taxes are too high, both federally and on the state level

We intervene militarily far too often overseas

Corporations have far too much sway within the government policies

Subsidies should be terminated

Before money is added within the government budget to some program, an equal/greater amount should be taken from elsewhere

General feeling is that both parties are driving us towards a cliff, one is doing it at 60 mph, and the other is doing it at 45 mph.

As I have gotten older, my political feeling more mimic that of the minarchists. Believing in” a state whose only functions are to provide its citizens with the military, the police and courts, thus protecting them from aggression, theft, breach of contract and fraud and enforcing property laws”

Note that I have not assigned a “side” to any of the items above. Reason being is I don’t think you can broad brush and call a topic conservative or liberal, republican or democrat. The people who call themselves liberal on the coasts, are completely different from those in the majority of the country.

Again, only my beliefs. Take them as you will. Back to the discussion of guns now.

Based on what you just said, I still don't think your views match those of the liberal gun club.

AMEN, I have studied the US Constitution and the process of its ratification for many years (and many on this forum have as well), ironically contemporaneous notes of that era could be cherry picked to justify both sides of many wedge issues (except gun rights for freemen--that was pretty f-n crystal clear) anyway the one theme at the core was NEVER allow government to restrict our Liberty.

Of course then the question invariably is when does exercising this Liberty run afoul of the social compact, e.g., can my neighbor dump 500 pounds of mercury-laden coal ash upstream of my spring water?

Generally speaking I agree with your points, the problem is not with our Founding Fathers or the sacred document they sired, but rather with humans who came later mucking it all up.

I agree with the majority of what you say. The thing I most strongly disagree with is I am pro life. I don't see it as "government decisions" but in doing the right thing and protecting the most vulnerable and helpless, they deserve an advocate too.

But in the desire to not get this thread off the rails back on topic. (after all we welcome different view points and opinions).

I tend to identify as a hybrid of constitutional conservative with some libertarian influence and a touch of religious morals on some social issues. I agree with a lot of what you said and I genuinely think most modern "conservatives" do too. Conservatives are not one in the same as republicans. The majority of conservatives (not counting the Republican socially conservative s) don't care if marijuana is legal, who someone has sex with (consenting adult of course), thinks taxes and corporate welfare are out of control, wants to be left alone and to put America first etc..

My general beliefs are that if you are not affecting me, I don't care what you do. Freedom and liberty is important to me. Even on things I disagree with I respect the right for others to do as they please if it doesn't affect me. Its not my place to tell others what to do or how to live I believe it's God who will judge us in the end its not our job to tattle tale or micro manage each other that's why we have free will to do as we please.

I think the modern Democrat party sucks. They are well on the way to being full blown big government tax and spend statists. They are constantly telling me I'm wrong for my beliefs and what I should or shouldn't do. On that note 90% of the modern Republican party sucks just slightly less. The Republican party now is what the Democrat party used to be 15-20 years ago.

Both parties are playing the same game. They are screwing us. A few lone wolf non deep state republicans and a few libertarians are pretty much the only voices of reason and support for the constitution in a sea of self wealth enriching and massive scale corruption.

I think there are different degrees of political labels and many groups get unfairly labeled or categorised in groups that don't fit or misrepresent. We have more in common that the media and left wants everyone to realize. They deliberately seed mistrust and division. They don't want us getting slong, all they care about is power and more power. If we all United we would already be marching with pitch forks.
