We have 2 natural gas pipelines on our property They run about 50 feet apart. One was built in the 50's and the other in the 70's ... We got paid for a lost building lot where the pipeline runs ... and got paid for the use of the land while the pipeline went in ... It sits buried about 6-10 feet deep and crossing a stream (Large drainage ditch )was no problem. it was encased in cement ... One would not know the pipeline was there. except they do mow over it every few years. Once a week they a flyover by helicopter to check for leaks ... The pipeline folks bent over backwards to address our concerns after the project was done . Grass did not grow well in an area ... sent a crew in to fix it.
Both pipelines run through the montezuma national wildlife refuge. ... I hear they did have some problems in there building in the 50's ... Hit quicksand and at least one D-8 sunk and never got it out. ...
To sum it up have had one running through the property for 70 years and never had a problem ... Your fears are very much unfounded ....

The people who choose NOT to sell are in NF way. Others have sold out leases so the furher isnt't cutting anyone's income who doesn't choose to do so. People sticking up for NF should really do some homework. We have in Pendleton and the majority choose not to have it. We did our homework. What good is a pipeline that is exclusive to Canada and the parent company has no accounts in Pendleton? People should have the right to choose what they want...The huge majority did.
Right now there are people who own vacant property adjacent to the proposed compressor site. The value of their land plummeted. A contractor has suspended building a subdivision just downwind from the site...He doesn't believe the property will work for him if it goes through. What about those people's "income"

We have a compressor station in town. Most people don’t even know it’s there and there haven’t been any issues with it. And I believe national fuel has a pretty good safety record and practices. The compressor station has multiple safety layers as well. Natural gas is about as safe as you can get with a flammable gas.

NF has given out millions to people up front, from Pa to NY including Pendleton. They keep that money and get more if the Compressor/pipeline is accomplished. We(Town) rejected the NF plans and how that affects these people can be interpreted by anyone/anyway.

Here's an opinion...well the Town did contact other sites in Pa and NF is NOT as safe as you would want people to believe. Noise,illegal discharges,pipe uptures to name a few. This compressor is not a small thing. NF is leasing ACRES to put it on. As I said earlier, people should educate before speaking, compare compressor sizes and the overall safety/pollution/noise impact. The Town spent a lot of money with attorneys,and research and information to residents. NF WAS offered an alternate site in Pendleton, not directly up wind of the schools and they turned it down as NOT being cost affective. What price is cost affective for children safety?

Where's the sympathy for the people who DON'T want their $$$$ but are threatened with eminent domain ? They lose use of their property and a few have had the land for generations. There are more of them than cooperating owners.

This is what I said earlier about input from people who don't know . The "Town" approves/disapproves building permits...guess what..that's not new...ALL towns/cities have authority to approve/disapprove building permits. Hence the Town gave out all information and let the people VOTE. I believe that's called "responsibility" by the Town. It's voted on by a "board" of representatives also....and it was unamamous. NFG applied and was turned down.

Outside of not being allowed to build on top of the pipeline we have full use of the land where the pipeline runs through it. The loss of the building lot was compensated for very well. The loss of the use of the property is puzzling as we can farm over this stretch of land and even tile across the pipeline ... It is buried 6 to 10 feet below the surface ....

The NG compressor station that is near me is 3 - 4 miles upwind from the elementary school. I frequent the 2 local bars here. I know a lot of people. I talk to a lot of people. At one time or another some people that I know had their kids in that elementary school. Once again, I have never ever heard any parents voice any concern about the NG compressor station.
But I get it. I get where Mr. terzmo is coming from (kind of.) I was very much against the wind turbines that went up near me for various reasons. Come to find out the things that I was concerned about never became a problem. They are ugly though, meh... Some land owners around here got a lot of money do to those wind turbines and good for them.
One more thing. Municipal water was installed in my area. I (we) didn't want it, there was no valid reason for it, our well water quality was / is safe. We the people voted the water project down and lo and behold it happened anyways. And because of that the property taxes in the project area more than doubled to pay for the project. That one pisses me right the fuck off.
Almost 50% of the people did not connect to the new municipal water supply including me. But we are still paying for it through our increased property taxes. There is nothing wrong with the water that comes from my well so I didn't see any reason to hook up to it. But I did have a couple of reasons "not" to... So I didn't.
The last paragraph is probably apples and oranges. I was just venting, I am still pissed off about my property taxes more than doubling for something that was not necessary.

Mr. terzmo mentioned that the gas will go directly to Canada. But would that still have an effect on the cost (billing) to the local customers. As in cheaper rates? ... IDK, I don't have a clue as to how that works.

According to Merkel, estimated annual property tax revenue is about $11.8 million and the one-time sales tax impact exceeds $8 million.
"In addition to these more discrete benefits, the Northern Access Project will help assure access to a substantial supply of low-cost energy," Merkel said. "The development of vast natural gas reserves has markedly decreased the average winter heating bills of customers in Western New York."
According to Merkel, during the winter of 2005-2006, a time when natural gas was supplied mainly from the southeast and Canada, an average heating bill for a residential building was about $1,200. This past winter, she said, the average was closer to $560.

I am well aware of how it works. I just don't think a town has a legitimate claim to deny people the right to use their property as they see fit.
The town doesn't own the property, so it shouldn't get a say in how it's used.
If a couple of your neighbors got together and decided they would prefer to have a park where your house sits, should they be able to form a "board" and take a "vote" then bulldoze your place ?

You seem to be confusing my knowledge of how it does work with what I'm telling about how it should work.
Also, you seem to have an unrealistically optimistic idea about how it does work, at least as far as bulldozers are concerned. For example I would suggest you familiarize yourself with the following examples before you get to excited about the government telling people what to do with their property.
