National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Bill Introduced

I like that our community is at least questioning this stuff. Hopefully, any final bill fixes these potential issues. Seems as though a bill that would force the "may issue" states, (I think there are about 7 of them, NY included?) to allow all persons to carry unrestricted would be the most desirable approach for a national reciprocity bill.

I am torn on this issue. I am a constitutional conservative and a federalist. So, I have serious issues with the federal government forcing states to do things that are within the state's legal domain. That said, should it be shown that states cannot legally infringe on 2A rights, then I'm fine with federal law superseding state statutes.

thats what im afraid of. however, since the restrictions we have are administrative only its not as large of a concern, but it would still suck that out of staters could carry freely while we could not.

Heck...if they can find the "right" to same-sex marriage hidden in the 14th amendment, then why not the right to have equal 2A permitting rights regardless of a citizen's geographic location?

The 2nd Amendment is a federally protected right that the states have been infringing on and the federal government has never stepped in and I believe it should have. So it would be long overdue for the federal government to force the states to stop infringing on the Second Amendment.

That's a very good point and I believe it would. If the final bill that goes through does not have provisions 2/4 States to be shall issue then that would absolutely open up a case and with a conservative Supreme Court that would go well for us in the long run.

There could be a darker unintended consequence for us. IF all states become legally obligated to accept all other states' permits, there would no longer be a need for states to issue non-resident permits. As with driver's licenses, individuals would be required to obtain firearm carry permits in the jurisdiction where they legally reside. Since the proposed legislation does nothing to address may-issue states (with their onerous "good cause" requirements) such as New York, we here will be prevented from being permitted to carry in any state since our non-resident permits (ex/ Florida and Utah) will be sunsetted as obsolete.

We may never, ever, see constitutional rights restored in New York. Especially, when attempts to restore rights to the rest of America on a federal level only further solidify the tyranny of Liberal Progressives.

I think you guys are over complicating this way too much. Simply make a carry permit in each individual state just like a drivers license accept there is no test for it and one MUST be issued if requested. It is a constitutional right after all. This would be valid in all 50 states with no exception. This is a start. THEN you can work on getting rid of the fees, renewals, etc or the permit all together. If the state drags their feet (as I suspect NY would) then that's a matter of enforcement by the feds.

Yep. Baby steps. You cannot get the whole enchilada all at once.

If we follow the mentality of some guys here of wanting everything all at once, we will get NOTHING.

Agreed. But, that is not what has been proposed in congress.
