That's not Constitutional Carry by a long shot. It repeals the need for a sheriff to sign off on buying a handgun (so looks like permitless purchase). It does not eliminate a license needed to carry.

Further, Cooper, the Demrat governor, vetoed something similar last year. Passage in the Senate without the signature of the governor does not a law make. The dominate Rs may well override him this time, but politics is a fickle bitch, and people would do well not to count their political eggs before they are hatched.

While I am also a firm believer in not counting your chickens before they hatch, it does appear that this will pass this year and override a probable veto by dem gov cooper.

In NC, one can already legally carry (openly) without a CWP if you are not legally restricted. However, you can only carry concealed if you have either an NC CWP, or one that is accepted in NC. And if memory serves, NC accepts every other (or damn near every other states) permits.

This would simply eliminate the requirement to pay $5 for a “Handgun Purchase Permit” from your local county Sheriff. Actually, an alternative to buying a $5 “Handgun Purchase Permit” is to just show your NC CWP when buying a handgun If you have that already. Most NC Sheriffs are pretty chill about the $5 permits, although apparently a couple are not quite so? I know when I lived in Union County (just outside of the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County) the wait to get a “Handgun Purchase Permit” was like one day as I recall. Getting my NC CWP took about 5 weeks.

Now I live in York County in Ft. Mill (again, just outside Charlotte, but in SC. SC allows open carry IF you have a CWP. Currently, SC is working toward becoming either the 26th or 27th state to enact Constitutional Carry, and it is expected to pass and be signed into law by Republican Governor Henry McMaster pretty soon.

SC does not accept all other states permits (although they do have reciprocity with several adjoining states including NC,- which is a necessity since the state border is so intertwined. When I drive down a nearby road to the nearby stores, I will literally pass into NC and back into SC a half dozen times within a mile or two…) Both NC and SC are just a little bit funky about carrying in a vehicle. It is actually a bit confusing between them as they are dissimilar. I forget which is which now, but in one you can put a firearm in a glove box or under a seat, but in the other you cannot. I forget the details at the moment, but since I keep it on my person, it really doesn’t matter to me. The other thing to remember here is that you are required in both states to immediately disclose to an officer that you are carrying IF you are stopped or have some other interaction with them.

SC will only issue permits to those who reside outside SC if they own land in-state, or are military stationed here. And if you move to SC as I did from NC, SC will no longer accept the NC CWP for SC residents, even though it is still valid until expiration as far as NC is concerned. NC will not issue them to non NC residents, so I waited to carry in SC after moving there until I got my SC CWP, which took about a month. As I currently understand it, passing Constitutional Carry here would be a great improvement, especially for those from other states visiting here. Looking forward to it!

Yes I see now. I only read the headline and first paragraph and it made it seem like they were getting rid of all permits. Damn misleading media.

Funny I have in-laws in SC and was traveling to Florida with a 5 day stop in SC

so I called the sheriff and asked how I should proceed with my pistol. I was told verbatim.. “ you can’t carry it, just leave it in your console or glove box out of sight. Loaded or unloaded” ( in a thick southern drawl)

I dunno? I got her name and didn’t look any further than that.

The cops here in the Carolina’s are quite chill when it comes to people having handguns,- unlike New Yorkistan!

Got back a month ago from a visit to NC. Stopped by a gun shop to see what they had and it made me so sad that we can’t own anything here. On my way home, I saw 5 state troopers over the first ~20 miles of NY, giving out speeding tickets.

Good for nothing pricks ticketing people on one of the least busy highways, a place where you could go 120 mph for long stretches and never be close to another car. Enforcing unethical gun control laws against the law abiding citizens who pay their salary.

Meanwhile, cities and now suburbs are full of drug ODs, dealers, shootings, rapes and these “youths” stealing cars and recklessly driving. For that, the cops do nothing. And god forbid YOU do.

I was in Raleigh and Cary specifically, and it’s a different world. Everyone was friendly, streets clean, no violence, barely any cops, and the ones I saw weren’t trying to fuck over good people. I was carrying, cause I always do, but I didn’t feel like I needed it. There are definitely two different Americas.

Definitely don't move to a free state. You might upset the retards who think that every state is, or will soon be like NY and if it isn't, it suddenly will be when the feds pass gun control.

It’s not even just the guns. My family that moved there is in a nice area, and yeah, maybe it’s a little fake, bad traffic and smells like dumb new money, but my god was it nice to not feel like I was next door to a third world country. It’s a comically homogeneous area, and most of them are NYers too.

We very well might win all these lawsuits up here due to Bruen, but none of “us” will ever be accepted here or safe. In NY the criminals do what they want and the government protects them. Ideally you want to live somewhere you don’t ever need a gun, but if you do need it, you want to live somewhere where the government is on the victim/defender’s side (you) and not the fucking criminal’s. NC has stand your ground and castle.

Housing is wildly expensive there but honestly, upstate is too since covid. I regularly see 400k houses in the middle tier suburbs of Rochester which is about the same as apex or cary. Lower taxes, better weather…..
