In what surprised many, the NC House and Senate voted today to override Gov. Cooper's veto of a law repealing the requirement for a pistol purchase permit (PPP).
Previously, to purchase a pistol from an FFL, one either needed a PPP or CCP.
This repeal does away with the PPP requirement. Beginning today, if you purchase a pistol from an FFL, it's the same as buying a rifle or shotgun. 4473 and NICS.
There is no requirement for private sales.
A permit is still required for concealed carry. Open carry is permitted without a permit.
The other important part of the bill also allows concealed carry (with the requisite permit) on educational property operated by a church when school activities are NOT in session.
Previously, one could not carry to church on Sunday if that church also had a school. That change takes effect 12/1.
