Need assembly help *(AR Upper)

I MAY be putting together an upper. I've got a Stag bcg.....Want to get an Aero precision upper no f/a and a Green mtn 16''bbl. Getting all the parts is all the budget is gonna allow. nothing extra for tools. Anyone in Southern Albany county have the tools and time to help me get this together? I can throw you a little something for helping. Not sure if I'm gonna do this, parts are getting hard to come by. I will get the tools at some point, this would give me a chance to see what to get. Thanks guys!

Interesting question. I sometimes wonder about folks panicking during times like this vs. being more patient.

I know someone who spent $2k on a windham ar pre-safe. It's a $1200 rig all day as it came with a nice piece of glass.

If this is your first I'd suggest asking about those of us who have boxes of run of the mill parts that have been swapped out with quality stuff as budgets changed.

Nope not my first, I assemble the lowers and buy an upper, just felt like trying it all from scratch, It's actually going on a SCR. I'm only spending about $300.00 I COULD wait and get the tools then assemble. But I figured if someone here would like to help me out I'll do it now. Sorry my choice in parts aren't up to your standards, but I do well with what i have. YMMV

I'm only spending about $300.00 I COULD wait and get the tools then assemble. But I figured if someone here would like to help me out I'll do it now. I've bought assembled uppers but I plan on doing one from scratch. I don't think there's much beyond torquing the barrel nut and installing a hand guard and dust cover.

The hardest part of assembling an upper is holding the upper steady when torquing barrel and muzzle device in a vice without damaging it. Other than a plastic clamshell or reaction rod type device just need a wrench/torque wrench and some punches.

The upper I'm getting has the dust cover on it.......that looks like a pita. I have bear paws which can be problematic w/ some of the AR's little parts.

I recently purchased a Real Avid AR Armorer's Master tool kit. Seemed like a wise choice if I don't entirely yet know what I might need from a tool perspective. I had the standalone AR armor's wrench when I did my barrel swap on my Ruger Precision. Figured I'd rather have the tools needed when I reach a challenge and research it's solution. They're normally listed for $250 but if you look a little they can be had for $200.

I cant comment on the handguard as the ones I've done have all had the proprietary attachment screw types (no ring) but I can say the Strike Industries enhanced dust cover is fairly inexpensive and a breeze to install as long as you're good with it being polymer instead of metal.

The general consensus was that an upper can be assembled with minimal basic hand tools, some punches, a vise and a couple short boards to act as a makeshift vise block. I think it was @GOPerfect that assembled his rifle in this fashion. I’m still rounding up parts for mine. Just finished some side work so fun money is inbound.

Yup I'm gonna make some receiver blocks. Ordered everything today and the wife offered to get me a Real Avid armorers wrench. So now I just gotta wait. I'll grab up torque wrench from H/F.

I think you're fine with the Napa. I have the aeroshell (small container) which really wasnt that expensive but I dont think necessary.

Glad to see you got everything under control lmk if you need any tools I probably can lend a hand. Travel through Albany area pretty regularly so might be able to make something work if needed. If not come down to Orange county seems we can have a party lol...
