Need help with sight replacement

I have a Kimber Micro Nine and I am trying to replace the rear sight. I am having a real problem removing the old sight. I have tried a sight pusher, a brass punch and a hammer, both with no luck. Other than using a bigger hammer, any suggestions? I had no problem replacing the front sight. Any help would appreciated.

Try putting the slide in the freezer over night

A little bit of heat on the slide might help.

Also a bigger hammer. You'll probably need a nice, sharp tap to start it moving.

Can you warm up slide with a hair dryer or lower power of a heat gun. If you hit 200F or less there should be no affect on the slide. If there are plastic dots on the sight, keep it below 150F.

When you reassemble the new stuff. Chill the sight and warm up the slide.

Are you drifting in the right direction? The dovetail is usually wider on one side and the sight needs to go in and out on that side. Measure it with a set of calipers. Add a few drops of Kroil to loosen things up too.

Some manufacturers put lock tight on the sights so a little heat or cold should help.

Warm it up and try the sight pusher first. Is there a set screw or something?

Well I took the slide to a local gunsmith I know. He said he would do it for $10. Can’t argue with that.

Got the pistol slide back today with the new sight installed. Also I just bought a sight pusher like he had. The Wheeler Engineering sight pusher.

Just an FYI regarding tapered pins and dovetails, ALWAYS install right to left and remove left to right as your holding the gun.

That is what I was doing. I guess I just didn’t twist the handle hard enough. My first time. Live and learn. After putting the slide in the freezer, the front sight doesn’t light up anymore. Any ideas?
