Build: Girsan Witness 2311 Brat

HK USP 9mm or Girsan 2311 Brat

Don't know if I want to get the Langdon Tactical USP or a 2311 Brat and do some upgrades like a Wilson Combat or Nighthawk ejector and drop-in Nighthawk trigger kit.

I know the price variance is large gap but these are the two guns I've had my eye on.

I really like the Girsan Hipower.

I love HKs but the Girsan Brat looks interesting. I'm sure with the two upgrades it would be a fantastic shooter.

If I got the USP 9mm compact, it would replace my VP9 as my EDC after some sufficient range time and practice.

The Brat would be a range toy. I haven't even looked into OWB holsters for it.

IDK about this. While they are both cool, my tastes are more Plebian than Patrician. Sort of like the difference between owning a basic (but comfortable) Honda instead of a top of the line Mercedes to drive to work every day. They both get you there and back home.

For me, at the moment anyway, I’ll run with an M&P Shield Plus with 15+1 rounds of 9mm. Not fancy, but reliable, reasonably priced, totally concealable, comfortable to carry and to shoot, - and I shoot it very accurately. And it carries a lifetime warranty from S&W.

I might feel differently if I had big bucks to spend freely, but I am poor (relatively anyway…)! LOL!

I would 100% go with the Garrison Brat over the USP. I think the USP is rather large and I do not like the grip/grip angle on it. I have a Para Ordinance P-12 that I love and the brat is similar. I’m sure the brat is more refined and the price leaves a lot of room. I saw $720 on their website and that’s a good price IMO. I like it so much I want one now too.

Well I may be a little biased. I love HKs and I have a pistol from Langdon Tactical. It is a phenomenal gun with an even better trigger. I would go with the LTT USP.

I myself have a USP on the list. Girsan........eh, I don't do Turkish stuff.
However on the USP- that pistol is a large, heavy and beefy design that is total overkill for 9mm. It's wat to l big and heavy compared to mainline 9mm options for no improvement in performance or capability.
I think there is only one true choice for USP calibers- the .45 ACP. The HK can take a nonstop diet of +P ammo and can also fire .45 Super with no modification.
Shooting standard pressure .45 ammo through USP feels like shooting a .32
With .45 Supers loaded a USP would make a good woodland defense gun.

I didnt think the USP 9mm compact felt too beefy. It didn't feel that much thicker than the VP9 I currently carry. The HK45C on the otherhand was beefy.

The only Turkish gun I own is the Canik SFX Rival and that thing has been a beast for me so far, almost 2000 rounds through it with no issues. As for resell value on that, I'd guess it would be low. I can't imagine Turk guns holding much value.

I'm heavily leaning toward the USP since I love HKs. The only intriguing thing for the Brat for me is that I don't own a 1911 patterned 9mm and its a poly frame.

I'd its a shits and giggles gun, or even a serious gun for any use outside of a CCW role the full size USP in .45 has the "it" factor for me. Especially in NY with a 10 round limit. 10 rounds of .45 Super is serious firepower and a lot of spectacle creating fun on the range. On the other hand $80 magazines sucks big time. Not sure about 10 rounder availability either. Standard capacity I belive is 12.

*EDIT* Several sites are offering OEM HK USP .45 magazines in both 12 and 10 round capacities for around $45. The $30 ones are ProMags so watch out. Also there are listings for the HK45 magazines which are distinct from and not cross compatible with the USP.

I really wanted the USP 9mm compact, but the trigger was horrendous. The LEM kit was also on the pricy side.

One of the other guys at the shop I work at had nothing but high praises for the Girsan Brat after putting 500 rounds through it.

The two other factors for me were:

1. I enjoy upgrading what I buy and making it my own. With the left over money I was able to buy a few items to do that.

2. I don't own a 2011

Also, bonus is that Cosaint Arms offers to do service packages for Girsan's. Inside the gun case was a Cosaint services card. I spoke with Greg Mooney at Cosaint and he spoke briefly about it. How they were approached by EAA to help with the Girsan Witness line. They decided to continue their relationship to offer upgrade services - super super nice guy. Even knew the owner and manager of the gun shop I work for.

With this being said, does anyone know a good set of tritium sights I could use for the Girsan? It says Novak cut but I'm not too sure of which height to get.

Almost everything has shipped except the Cosaint Arms grip. Also ordered up a new punch set that comes with a handgun punch block.

I can finally retire the beat up cardboard center from the used up packing tape.

I actually got through to someone at the NYPD license division to ensure they received my email with all the required documents to get my purchase authorization. The last few times the emails kept bouncing back.

Hopefully it will the take the lazy bastards only a week to send the purchase authorization and new permit.
