New Barrel recommendation for Savage 111

Going to be reworking my Savage 111 in .300 WM, getting the Oryx chassis, and looking at an E.R. Shaw barrel. Can anyone recommend something better quality but stay within 50 of the price of the Shaw. would love to have the extra $$ to drop on a criterion

I have an ER Shaw on my Grendel. I think the performance is pretty solid. Recommending a barrel is like recommending underwear. I would look for the features and options you want (profile, twist, finish, etc.) then find the companies that offer what you need. I created a spreadsheet when I was looking for a barrel (twist, length, cost, lead time, etc). It was easier to compile and manage all the variable to ease of viewing.

Once I gathered all my info, I narrowed down who I thought would fit, them researched reviews and comments on various on line resources. Some suppliers will respond quickly if you have questions, others will not respond at all.

In the end, it's a compromise of all the factors.

There are quite a few I would love, but its the price point that's killing me. I've seen lost of positives about these barrels, and a 1st hand account further reinforces the research. Would like a Criterion, Kreiger or Stillen, but unless they feel like just giving me one I'll just have to drool over their page for a couple more years at least. Thanks for the input time to place the order and plan on my break in range sessions.

Does Wilson make Savage barrels? I would probably go Wilson over Shaw.

I'll look into the wilsons, keeping total for barrel around 250-275 out the door. (barrel, lug, nut, gauges and wrench) Not a lot that I've found in that range, surprised i didn't see Wilson before.

Thank you all for the input. I ended up ordering a Wilson barrel after the suggestions.; The Shaw still would have been 100 less, but i think I'm more than getting my moneys worth form ragged hole barrels. The only thing i wish was different, I had to order the chassis from the manufacturer instead of a small US business I like to support (Tactical Works) I have no skin in the game with these 2 cmpanies, but i've had great expierences with them and they have some good prices.

For your next build, Northland shooters supply has criterion and shilen barrels for your savage.
I've built dozens of rifles with both barrels they offer and every one has been as accurate as the lilja, kreiger and hart barrels I've used in the past, without the wait.
I've used Mcgowan barrels and while their priced right, their not in the same class as the others, but good for short and mid range plinking.
If you look around, some really nice barrels pop up on E-Gads every once and awhile.
