While I think this is a stupid bill, I think employers have been taking advantage of employees for far too long. When salaried employment first started there no was need for PTO. You worked to do your job and if you had down time or wanted a vacation you took it.

Then it went to you can to tell us why you won't be here and we will decide if you can have the time off.
Then it went to PTO.
Then PTO and mandatory 40 hour work weeks.
Then PTO and minimum 40 hour work weeks but don't complain unless you are over 50 hours a week all the time.

This whole thing is a fuck joke to work people to death for the least amount of pay possible. I say fuck all this and back to work an hour get paid for an hour.

I've seen our current work force. Nobody is 400% more productive and some are way less productive. Even if everyone was more productive you can't get 40 hours of work out of someone that's only there 32 hours. Employers are still bitching about their employees working from home because they're less productive.

This isn't going anywhere but imagine how high our taxes will go to cover the cost of hiring more state/county/federal workers to get shit done because people only work 32 hours a week. I read their proposal yesterday and it said OT over 32 hours per week. Ot over 8 hours and double time over 12 hours in one day.

I'm guessing unions could still negotiate hours? I'd actually have to work more days per year under this stupidity. We work 12 hour shifts and are scheduled for 7 days in a 2 week period which means we work half the year. These idiots don't even think about non office jobs that simply can't run 9-5.

I worked 40 plus hours a week.had 6 days off a month instead of the traditional 8 and once a month..every month worked 14 days straight without a day off. Did that for 20 years , along with many others. Complaining never came up.How did We cope or survive…

I'm salaried. My salary was based on 40 hours. That's what they get. My salary hasn't changed significantly in the past 4 years. I've adjusted the amount of work I do to compensate.

If you could actually GET people to work, this would not be such a bad idea. I can't tell you how many time I've walked past desks and see people fucking off on social media, shopping, or watching videos. When I'm at work - I work. I have a lot to do - and can barely keep up as it is, and screwing off just means more to do tomorrow. Don't give a shit if it sounds arrogant - I could get as much done in 32 hours as many people in my company do in 48. But that's the problem - how do you separate the workers from the lazy POS freeloaders?

And by the way - 40 hours is thanks to Henry Ford who needed to work people half to death for shit wages so his production line would never stop, and it's just gotten worse since then. Executive attitudes are such that they are not going to authorize hiring more people when the drones they have are willing to "pull up their bootstraps and get it done." The older I get, the more tired I am of employers assuming that you'll sacrifice your life for their profits and their stockholders portfolios. News flash - you get paid what you get paid because it's already built into the operational plan. My skillset and output merits a certain wage - but at the same time, my personal time and effort also has intrinsic value and it's time people started questioning what they are worth to themselves, their families, and their friends. People who don't understand that kind of value make perfect wage slaves.

I’m working on it. I dropped my biggest landscaping customer and I’m only keeping two customers. They only call me like 3-4 times a year and they are both disabled. The one guy is rather poor and I allow him to pay me what he can. It’s always fair to me but that keeps him from calling me more than I want to work for him at this point. It works well. I’ll be done with my masters by December hopefully but I can’t keep this pace up over the summer or I’ll be miserable since I love to be outside. After that I can teach part-time but I can take or decline classes and do them when it works for me. Obviously there’s deadlines but it would be all online and I grade when I have time throughout the week.

I work with instruments and analyzers that produce better, faster results at a rate that was unheard of in the 1980s, forget decades before that. Automation, computerization, better manufacturing processes, etc, have indeed made it such that fewer people can exceed the work rate that it used to take many more people to do the same. Sure, there are lazy workers everywhere, but the tools at hand in today’s world make them more productive than their predecessors.

Think of it as a “don’t have to milk an entire herd of cows by hand @ 5am every day, then drive it to the customers and bring the empty jugs back and wash them for tomorrow” kind of productive. Unless you are a teacher. I know one personally that most days only works from 9am-2pm and then goes home. Of course that is only 3 days a week, rest of the week she works from home... Then add all those other "perks".
