If you buy a new one you have to get checked and have followups, but if you already own one no checks, no recertification. There is no way to track any of this, just more burden on sales.

This pissed me off, but I’m glad I don’t plan on buying anymore semi auto rifles. Most new guns I want are pistols, but there’s that microstamping bullshit, hmm. We’re fucked.

The only thing I could see me doing is buying a different caliber ar upper anytime soon. I wonder what they will do with that? It’s not a rifle so?? I’m not a rifle guy, but I’m not saying it’s right and I’m not one of those that say doesn’t impact me so who cares. I do care because my kids may want them, a neighbor, a friend who knows. The license will do nothing other than add coats, tracking, and red tape.
I would like to add more pistols though and that won’t happen overnight. If I buy two more self defense pistols I should be fine in that regard, but I’d like a more accurate .22 pistol and a nice 9mm 1911.

I'm more of a handgun guy myself as I get older. I also find handguns fascinating pieces of technology.

Ever since I got into reloading, I've learned to appreciate guns even more.

It's neat to be able to manufacture your own cartridges, go shoot them and adjust loads as I'd prefer. Along with tolerances involved.

Just something about all that is so satisfying.

NYS did this exact same thing to many licensed professions across the state back in 2013. It’s not a new scheme.

Most likely, but because there isn't a licensing system in place yet for rifles, you wouldn't even be able to purchase a semi-auto rifle until that system exists (I didn't see any stipulation in the bill about a system having to exist in order for this bill to go into effect). Who knows how long it would take for them to get a system up and running, but I imagine that it would probably be longer than the 90 days it would take for this bill to go into effect once passed.
