New Circumstances and choices to be made..CCW with newborn

I have posted in the past debating to be what pistol I should get next and still have not decided. But just found out my wife is expecting and I am going to be a father. This has already started my thinking on what to carry and how to carry appropriately when the baby comes (we are also in money saving mode so making my new gun purchase will be tight). This post may be quite loaded and I apologize.

I currently CCW a Springfield XDS 4.0 9mm and carry around the 3-5 o'clock in a hybrid holster. I have carried appendix before in a Galco Stow-n-go but I never really liked it (I have thought about picking up a kydex holster and seeing if I prefer that more.)

First, I am wondering how you dads or moms carry with your child in hand, do you do anything special/different(type of firearm, location and method of carry...etc).

The next issue brings me to my next handgun purchase that I was wanting to make this summer. I was debating (mostly) between the Ruger LCRx (in .38+p or .357 mag) and the Glock19. I know these are two completely different classes with different POU. I was originally wanting the LCRX to be able to pocket carry, ankle carry (in car) and AIWB carry when I am wanting a more low profile carry piece with lighter weight. It just seems like it would be a very handy revolver to have and would be a good BUG also. This revolver may be easier to carry when I have a baby in arm also.

I was wanting the G19 because I would get blue label pricing which makes it a very competitive choice for that sole reason. My dept. pistol is also the 17 so I would be able to practice with (basically the same) pistol at home that I will have to qualify with. I would be using the G19 for a range and a HD pistol and I would probably try it out as a larger CCW piece. Having a full size 9mm is just a must have also lol.

Any insight would be appreciated.

First off congrats on the new arrival. Assuming it's your first. Absolutely best thing that will ever happen to you and your wife. Enjoy!

As for carry, first X number of months is no issue... But... keep drilling into your newfound bundle of joy's ear gun safety... 1. Stop! 2. Don't touch. 3. Get an adult. 4. Leave the area. It's not going to mean anything for first year or so, but no matter, get in practice of teaching your child about gun safety.

As they get older it's more important to drill gun safety into their heads. They are sponges and absorb everything. You are their world. Make the best time of it.

Most importantly, have fun with y0ur kid. I wish I knew 20 years ago what I know now. It's the best thing ever. Guns are just another object like the fireplace, under the sink cabinet (cleaning supplies), kitchen (knifes), etc. Keep them safe always and never stop drilling in why. Everything else will fall into place.

I went through it about 12 years ago. Everything is dangerous to a newborn. Guns are just another object on the list... Care for them, protect them and teach them about everything. Most of all enjoy them, time goes by too quickly. Congrats and good luck!

Now I'm definitely saying the 92FS. I love the safety on it, when you flip the safety on it deactivates the hammer and puts it forward and when you take the safety off you can then pull the hammer back. Hands down it's a lot more safer than a glock and it might be a bit hard for your child to pull the hammer back

Easy grasshopper. When it's your time you'll see. While a beretta 92 is a great night stand gun, it is hardly concealable. Only a handful of revolvers I can think of that are bigger including the s&w 500 which @Darth has although that's what happens when you have penis envy.

Double and single action

The beretta is unsafe for single action carry, which is why I bought a taurus pt92 with frame mounted safety and decocker. Can be carried in single or double action.

I'm legally not aloud to carry (practice wise I have done open carry in a holster with the beretta and 1911). Glock/Anything Like a glock worries me because I don't like the idea of no safety on a pistol when pulling it out, maybe when I'm more experienced with drawing a pistol I would but the thought of not having a safety and pulling a gun out and not having it accidentally get caught around my finger to early or something scares me. My dad is setting up a course this summer that we can practice at

Safety on any gun is between your ears. I've got a lot of guns and usually carry a Glock. Sometimes a SIG (which does have a thumb safety). I don't feel any less safe with either one. I prefer Glocks for SD precisely because they don't have any external safeties. I really don't care what gun you choose to carry but whatever you decide to carry make sure you train with it and are comfortable with it. Finger off trigger until you're ready to shoot. Pretty simple.

Never get an NAA mini thing. No safety, loading it requires pulling trigger to drop hammer to notch between the rounds.

I went through your same predicament 2 years ago (wow time flies). I carry a G43 in an alien gear holster around my little one for around 12 hours a week. From what I've found is if you have a good modernist holster and practice proper safety techniques you will be fine. I know it doesn't seem right that it's that easy but it really is. My biggest problem is when holding/picking up the kid my shirt seems to ride up more than I like. It's become a habit now even when not carrying to pull my shirt down after picking him up.

Good points. I do like the grip safety on my XDS, it does add an extra piece of mind to me especially when I am holstering(I just pick my hand up a bit and deactivate it as the barrel slides in). My wife would love if I bought the EMP but its too much $$ and I think the xds 4.0 and emp 4 would be roughly the same size. I have never really considered the MOD2, I could look into that.

@Dayten I would like a 92 but not for this purpose. The ones I have shot have been fun.
