New development in black powder hunting

Saw this quickly last night, looks like Federal has "created" (developed?) What they call the "firestick"

Looks like a polymer encased powder that is breach loaded then capped with a primer, it uses a proprietary gun (starting at like just under $600)

But over all seems like a pretty nifty system, especially for those looking to get into black powder hunting as it would make the proces a lot simpler as for powder loads and what not.

Cool gun and idea but what for? Ny hunting says muzzleloader. Not black powder. Altho cool and all it wont be legal for ny muzzleloader season.

Not all states regulations are worded the same.

Maybe in some the separate primer makes it not too "fixed ammunition" for use.


That also brings up the idea that in NY at least, you *can* have fixed cartridges with modern powder as long as they are muzzle loaded ?

Maybe we go back to that G11 ammo technology again, and make a sabotted caseless round designed to be muzzle loaded...

You still have to load the bullet from the muzzle. Just another sort of in-line.

But since this is a ny forum id point out that it isnt legal. Like the new arrow guns. Cool and might be legal somewhere, but not here and i dont see how they ever will be.

Is it really that much simpler then than just putting a few of the 777 discs in? It seems like a strange invention. But I enjoy that you always find these weird guns and post them.

I've never used either.. I dont see it being to much of am advantage.

But I can see it maybe being an advantage for the shitty days.. days you don't see anything and want to unload, pop the breach pull out the firestick

can it be reloaded for us that measure powder ?

shit .. i have reloaded 12ga hulls with BP and birdshot .. "smooth" bore moss pump .. so if i leave out the shot , and pour it down the barrel and pack in a wad to keep it from falling out .. my 500 is a musket LOL ..

Kinda takes the nostalgia out of muzzleloaders.
Everyone I know who uses a muzzleloader does it for the coolness and nostalgia and like all the steps of loading.
This is kinda like the "resto mod" car guys.....I like my old cars stock as possible.

Many people like muzzle loaders for the nostalgia as you say, But there are just as many people who do the muzzle loader thing just for a few extra weeks of deer season.

They just want as modern a rifle as they can get for those extra weeks.

This looks like it would need a 4473. This could very easily be converted to a rifle using a centerfire cartridge. The ATF actually states that "inline" muzzleloaders need to have a 4473 for that same reason. They can be converted to shoot a centerfire round pretty easy. However Walmart, cabela's, midway usa and pretty much every local hardware store around me doesn't get this and doesn't do it.
