The Alaskan looks nice and would be better suited for protection ie: a quick draw. I plan on using this as a hunting pistol. Figure the 7.5 was a good compromise and should get the job done well.....

i had a 500 magnum and eventually sold it to get into a 460 magnum instead. It's a bit easier on the recoil but more importantly, it uses ver common .452 bullets which are used in many calibers so reloading it is FAR cheaper than 500 magnum. i also picked up the 454/45 Colt Alaskan. With hot rod 45 colt rounds, they beat out 44 magnum by a bit but again, use very common .452 bullets.

I had a 460 and sold it to get the 8-3/8" 500, and sold the 8-3/8" 500 and bought a 4" 500 for concealed carry.
I load acme 330 grain coated for $.70 cents a round now. Thats my plinking load.
My speer 325 HP hunting load calculates to $1.10 per round. Thats with new starline brass.
I couldn't afford to shoot it, if I didn't start to reload for it.
I had a double barreled percussion .50 cal black powder pistola cannon too.
It was a fun toy, but the high seas weren't my thing, so I sold it and the Parrot to some land lubber scalawag.
I started with a 44 blackhawk, redhawk, 629, freedeom arms 454, the list goes on.
My go to hunting sidearm for the last decade has been a taurus titanium 44 mag, after giving up on the S&W 329PD.
Every American should have at least one 44 mag !

I do have a couple 50cal black powder pistols. .....As for the various other cannon like calibers this fit my needs in a very fulfilling manner. I am going to use it for white tail hunting. I will not have very distant shots. The 7.5" barrel should provide plenty of velocity and accuracy for what I need while keeping weight down and maneuverability at an advantage.

For some reason Midway never showed me those Speer JHP bullets when searching for 452 rounds. Those are significantly cheaper than the Hornady bullets I've been using. 30% cheaper if you step down from 500 diameter to 452 though.
I was using the Hornady XTP Mag bullets in 460 because they're rated for the extreme velocities of 460. Are these speer bullets rated for 2200 fps? I'm having trouble finding information for these with anything other than 45 colt loads (half the velocity of 460 magnum)

I've never recovered one in any of the game I've shot with them.
Been total pass through's, with lots of damage.
I even use the .44 cal in a sabot in my muzzleloader.

Question for the big boys club. If I put a scope on a 4" or 6" big bore is there accuracy difference? I could see with 4" or 6" iron sights and sight radius, but with glass?
