New Jersey Lawmaker Files Legislation that Will Require Gun Owners To Carry $50,000 Liability Insurance
Filed on November 25th of this year by Patricia Egan Jones, A-6003 would effectively outlaw the 2nd Amendment for anyone who can’t afford the onerous insurance policy.

The first line of the proposed legislation reads “No person shall possess a firearm unless the person has first obtained a policy of firearm liability insurance in an amount of not less than $50,000, specifically covering any damages resulting from any negligent or willful acts involving the use of that firearm while it is owned by that person.” So, basically someone could steal your gun, use it in a crime, and you’ll be held responsible.
You’d be required to carry proof of this insurance on your person at all times, or else “The seizure of the firearm by the law enforcement officer” is required.

You’ll be fined $1000 for the first offense, and $5000 for a second offense, along with the “revocation of and disqualification for any permit, identification card, or license to purchase, carry, or possess any firearm” for five years.

No one will, because like most gun laws, this wouldn't be enforced by cops. It would be enforced by FFL's refusing to sell guns to people in the first place, or an add on charge by DA's after an arrest for some other reason.

It is funny how LE is blamed for enforcing these laws that are passed, but I have not heard of too many FFL's selling guns without infringing upon the Rights of their customers.

Every time a gun is sold, these FFL's are supporting gun control.

You're actually far more likely to find a cop willing to use discretion on any given law than an FFL willing to overlook a single gun law. PM me the name of a single FFL that will sell me a gun without a background check and I promise to only give them my business from now on, no matter how far of a drive it is.

That’s because they fear the root of the problem. Enforcement. If they didn’t fear going to jail or losing their business to enforcement, they would sell anything.

It’s funny but actually quite sad that some here fail to see the actual root of the problem so that they can sleep better at night.

Look at all the illegal mods people put on their vehicles that are sold in stores. Why do they sell and install illegal mods. Because they know that enforcement isn’t going to come to their business. When enforcement starts doing so, you well not see shops installing window tint on front windows and installing flashing lights or loud tail pipes.

There are lots of ways to get a gun that don't involve an FFL.

And they only insist on compliance to the degree that they do because of the (ultimate) threat of arrest. If there weren't the threat of arrest hanging over everything they would just sell guns however they wanted and wouldn't bother with the FFL BS to begin with.

I just don't see them as part of the compliance mechanism at all. They are just people trying not to get caught up in the BS either.

If SAFE was written to only apply to FFLs it would be a lot less onerous, and most of us would care a lot less.
