My guess is Family member said to her here is the Deal, you give me back the Gun you stole from me or I call the police to tell them you did. She obviously sold that shit a long time ago and figured hey I better make up a good story to keep my sorry drug using ass out of Jail!

Ummm...charged with illegal possession of a pistol that is now missing? Really? So.... the only way that the state knew she had the now-missing pistol is because she testified to the fact in the police report she filed reporting it missing.

It was probably a Hi Point. It may be the gun brand most likely to be given away just to get rid of it, it would take a long time to muster up the courage to admit ya got a hi point, I guess someone could go in to denial and subconsciously just lose a hi point, it is from New Jersey with Hi Point declared as the official Gun of the Garden State / Newark , and I would assume he / she would be involved with an ugly gun and there aren't many other guns that are even uglier than a glock.
So, even though she had no pistol on her, she was charged with possession?

this is a nothingberger, she was issued an Appearance ticket, that like a traffic ticket. At most I bet she pays a fine.

United van lines just had statistics published of states that had the most residents leaving, and the states with largest new influx. The data was predictable with the most repressive states losing the greatest population. What was suprising, was not that New Jersey topped all states with the greatest outward exodus, what suprised me was that most of the fleeing Garden State populus was moving to NY.
NY, however, was still near the top of the list of a shrinking population in spite of the New Jersey and illegal alien influx.

Jersey sucks, that is for sure. NY is pretty close to suckiness compared to Jersey.

Wouldn't it be classic if it turns out that her relative in NJ actually has the pistol and says he has had it all along! Then, he produces it for inspection by authorities to prove he has it. Bet they would still try to charge the woman in NY for something.
Something along these lines is what I am thinking. There's definitely more to this store than that press release details.

An Appearance ticket is not "like a traffic ticket".She was charged with a class A misdemeanor,not a violation,a crime.An appearance ticket is issued in lieu of arrest to people who meet certain criteria.
An appearance ticket is an arrest, at least down here. The perp just doesn't have to sit in the cells waiting to be arraigned.

Yes,by her own admission she brought it into this state,illegally,and possessed it in her residence,illegally, till it was stolen from her possession at her residence.They both got some 'splainin' to do.

It's a very interesting and not metaphysical question as to whether someone can be charged with possession if she no longer has the item. The answer under NY case law is she cannot; for instance, you cannot be charged with possession of drugs if you admit you snorted coke two months ago.
The charges will be dismissed if she has a good lawyer.
