New Law Banning "Others"

New law takes effect (for now) Sept 1 regarding the sale of "other" firearms. I see a lot of dealers still selling them. Is this for the sale and transfer only? Will possession after Sept. 1 still be legal?

Here is a excerpt from an email I received from a LGS.

"This is your last chance to order a ****** "OTHER" before the ban on the sale or transfer of Others goes into effect on September 1, 2022."

Seeing the contradictions and confusion regarding the training requirement (CCIA) for permits I don't know what to make of the law.

They are selling them to get your money. After Sept 1, it will be illegal to possess them. There is no grandfathering for those that will still have them.

Relates to defining firearm; provides that the term firearm shall also include any other weapon that is not otherwise defined containing any component that provides housing or a structure designed to hold or integrate any fire control component that is designed to or may readily be converted to...

There is no provision in there for grandfathering. It is considered a firearm now under NY definition and firearms are illegal unless exempted.

Exemptions are via pistol permit or assault weapons registrations for us peons or via FFL or military in performance of their duties or law enforcement.

They say that only because they are trying to get out of the lawsuit. The law says different. Like when they tried to get out of the lawsuit by allowing premise permit holders the ability to bring their firearm out of NYC after being sued because they couldn’t. The law said different. According to the law they couldn’t since premise permits aren’t carry permits. Then Bruen happened.
