New law protects EV drivers’ access to public charging stations

Eh, I can see why you’d be frustrated if someone is hogging a charger space...but I don’t think the law should be there to protect anyone from low-level assholism. Of the few public chargers I’ve seen, they generally aren’t in prime princess parking spots anyway, so unless you have a pretty car you want to keep away from other cars and door dings, folks probably aren’t desperate enough to take a charger space anyway.

Kind of a no-brainer here. No different than any other parking violation, most of which make sense. For example, I fully believe the penalty for double parking on a curve should be death.

They should also ban people hogging public chargers. One in my town always has the same Tesla parked out front—overnight. The idiot thinks it’s okay to just use that charger instead of install a 240v at his house.

Eh, not exactly the same. You can drive two blocks away and find another gas station. I've actually never come across a gas station with all of the pumps taken, though I don't go into big cities often.

As for the original topic, not sure we needed another law but it IS an asshole thing to do.

Worse than that are the assholes that use the only 2 gas pumps that are combined with diesel while the other 10 pumps are open making people wait to get diesel.

Funny I went to cabelas and the Penera bread parking lot has 8-9 charging stations and there were zero spaces occupied by anyone.

To the simpletons that say this is like any other parking violation, remember that demonstrates a problem with parking violations, not these. "How could anyone have a problem with X" Here is how: They build these ridiculous spaces that nobody uses in the spots that used to be for all. Then the lot will be full and these spaces empty. No reason whatsoever that any car should not be able to use them.

Yeah, lets subsidize some additional parking spots with chargers so they're available because Paul doesn't like Teslas so he parks in the charger spot with his Jeep Wrangler.

whats the big deal, I was at Eastview Mall, they have 6 charging stations in the lot. They are at least 100 yards from the nearest entrance. They are literally the furthest from the mall they could put them

Not always the case. In Lake George by the Great Escape there is a park and ride with the whole first row full of that crap that is always empty. Never seen a single car there.

Because first this law, and then parking lots where all the "gas car" spots are in the next county. Same thing they did with cigarettes, tiny little steps. Not saying it is good or bad, but that is how it is done.

OK I am guilty , I was at an out of state, State park down south a while ago in my Tiny Mitsubishi Mirage rental car and there were NO Spaces Except for 6 empty charging spots. I dropped my wife off with gear and told here I would return after I parked.

I parked, opened the hood and put the cable under the hood, closed the hood. Had my fun came back. Man was my wife pissed when she seen where I parked.

Aren't these the Tesla supercharger stations?

I do wonder if some of the people being upset here get upset when they see empty handicapped spots at the front of a store as well, because there are always too many of those.

If a person disagrees with ev stations in general that's fine, but it's silly--and you know it--to pretend that a business or entity is going to drop $2k per EV parking spot and then simply accept that anybody can park there if they got there first.

Who's paying for the electricity for these charging stations? Why should I pay for somebody else's fuel. I dont see it as an issue right now but as more electric vehicles are out there and more charging stations taking up parking it may become one.
This just reeks of another way for the government to steal money.
