The MIC always needs to innovate and produce new products just like every other company. They will market them as the best ever produced for war. They will focus on irrelevant metrics for the most basic use like heated seats, defrosting mirrors, Bluetooth connectivity and 32" screen, lane assist and driver-less mode.

I'm of the opinion you could just stick with 308 with a 18 inch barrel to satisfy this "requirement". To get the velocity out of a 16 inch barrel in this new rifle you have to use 80k psi ammo. Add a can to it and it's just absurd. How long until there are reports in the field of the guns just falling apart with extended use? There are normal civilian rounds that use 55k psi ammo but then it defeats the purpose no? 308 is common and tons of loadings. This is a solution looking for a problem.

Someone manages a department in charge of redesigning it and if they say "it works fine the way it is" they are out of a job.

I agree with you guys, but the thing is, they need a round capable of penetrating body armor at 2-300 yards , I think thats what they are looking for.

LGS has a Sig and a few cases of ammo, too rich for me.
IDGAF what they change to, I'm not buying it nor depending on "battlefield pick ups" we get to that point, I'm already dead and someone else is using what I put away for a rainy day... the 7.62x51 NATO Round has been perfected and a wisp faster or flatter isn't going to make much more than a marginal difference, with those who CAN shoot or any to those who can't.
