A friend updated to the new plastic cards in Oneida county about 18 months ago. His permit is damned near unreadable now, picture worn pretty badly, printing worn off. Anyone else experiencing this yet?
Is this still good, or does he have to purchase another? Planned obsolescense?

    Yep. Pure NY quality.

Unbelievably, they printed me a new one for free.

Mine broke in three pieces, just had a replacement done two weeks ago. Five bucks! Told them this one better be made of better stuff!

Here I am with a paper card that's been in my wallet for years, still in mint condition.

Yeah, mine lasted forty years with no problem, they wouldn't let me keep it when I went plastic. Don't know why. Sentimentality means nothing to the 'G', HAH!

I am on my third copy of my permit in three years. My permit ID number keeps wearing out.
Now I’ve got a question. In Ulster County every time I got a duplicate permit the judge needed to sign it and date it. Last one was about 13 months ago sith said date. So when does my renewal countdown begin? From the original date on the original permit? Or the last one that was dated 13 months ago that the judge dated?

What brand are you using? I've been on the fence about trying a minimalist wallet.

Still paper here in Broome, and crap quality at that. I've had mine replaced 4 times. I wish they would go to plastic like the drivers license but they told me it's a money issue.

lol don't think he cares much for Broome, and the Sheriff here don't care none for Cuomo.

Why is it my responsibility to ensure the permit is readable? As long as it hasn't been intentionally defaced it or altered, what's the issue? Wonder if it's stipulated anywhere in the penal code, lol... And oh, they now have to last 5 years!

Paper permits never wore out, never expired... There's something to be said that if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Paper permits wore out far faster than plastic...

In rockland county NY they solved that problem with a plastic laminate that once the card is printed they just put this laminate over it. Kinda like a screen protector for a phone but much thinner, they only do it on the first card picture side
