New production Remington 870

So I had a chance to see and handle one of the new production model 870’s. Was in wingmaster trim. The wood furniture was of nice quality, the finish was evenly applied, the gun felt tight and smooth, gave a feeling of quality. The machining was nice with no tool marks that I could see, almost like someone took their time to make it right. Compared to my old pre bankruptcy 870, this was leaps and bounds better. Now I still would like to see and handle a few more examples before I am willing to add one back into the collection, but overall it seemed quite promising.

Is it marked "Rem Arms" or "Remington"?
In the final days they were building anything they could with whatever they could find without regard to QC....supposidly there were quite a few guns made and warehoused.

I have a pre bankruptcy wingmaster that is the same. Wingmasters always got extra attention.

The first shotgun I bought was a wingmaster 870 made towards the end of Remington. Wood forend and stock didn’t match in regards to color and finish (stock was shiny and dark colored, forend was satin finished and lighter colored) the finish on the reciever was blotchy, and there was burrs inside the chamber that would hulls to get hung on. This was noticeably better fit and finish.

I bought an 870 Express Tactical in 2012 and it was a huge piece of shit. Everyone always spoke of how bulletproof the 870 platform was, but mine rusted after touching it and locked up a few times and needed to be slammed open.

I sold it and have refused to buy anything from Remington since. Not sure what their QC is like now. Mossberg makes much better pump shotguns with better control ergonomics IMO.

I can show you one built in 2016 that matches and operates smoothly. Sometimes one here or there may have mismatched wood, it happens, but not 2 different finishes. Blotches on the receiver happen Sometimes too, but usually very small.

Yea I bought an 870 and Winchester target loads would jam it up consistently. Very disappointing.

Crazy, because that's probably the most important and primary function of a gun, that it works. I won't buy Marlin lever actions either, though maybe now that Ruger bought them it'll be better.

I have gotten a few new 870's in. So far the bluing is not spotty and the action is a lot smoother and easier to work. Fit and finish overall is way better than the last guns we got. The action does not feel like someone poured sand into it.
