New raised bed attempt

We don’t. All for personal consumption. We grow a variety so there really isn’t enough to sell and individual product for us.

Are you using standard wood or something more rot/bug resistant?

@Michael the legs and side panels are cedar.

These are more expensive than my on the ground boxes. I need to find a local source for cedar dog eared fence pickets as it would drop the cost per box significantly. It seems like the sweet spot is building three at a time as each 4x4x8 yields three legs. And one box of timberloks will do three boxes.

If anyone cares, the legs are 4x4x32”, side panels are either 1x6x4 or 1x8x4 (trying both), I used 1/2” hardware cloth (left over from building the chicken henitentary) screwed into the bottom and the. 1x3x4 for the underside to better distribute the weight of the soil. Added weed fabric on top of hardware cloth to prevent loss of soil.

Yeah I put marigolds in all of my raised beds. It’s the best rabbit deterrent that I’ve found.

Worked in the gardens this morning. Harvested some awesome sized zucchini, yellow squash, cuckes and a bucket of red potatoes. We’ve already been eating two varieties of lettuce for the last week.

I amend it with compost Every year. I buy a yard of compost and turn it in by hand ( shovel & pitchfork) every spring before planting. Peatmoss mixed in every other year. The soil is approx. 60/40. Too much compost and it dries out too quickly and needs constant watering.

I didn't know marigolds kept rabbits away. Now it makes sense why the rabbits I see aren't messing with our stuff. The chipmunks seem to be leaving all of our stuff alone as well. They make holes though. I deter everything from my second floor windows.
