Say I'm point entering a room. I fire 3 rounds from my shotgun in room number one. Before leaving that room to go to the hallway to enter room number 2, I'd rather top off 3 more rounds back to 7 than going into the hallway and the next room with only 4 rounds left.

I don't want to go click and have to reload no matter how fast I can do it while engaging 3 dudes in another room trying to kill me.

When taking a defensive shotgun course, they ran drills that were intended to force the guns to run dry. The instructor would call out lined-up targets to be shot in order. He'd call several numbers at a time to simulate multiple assailants. We had dump pouches and receiver/stock mounted shell holders. We had to try and keep the shotgun fed. If multiple targets were called, we had to load, shoot, load, shoot, etc. If we got a lull in the action, we reloaded as many rounds as we could before we heard the next target called. Now...if I had a magazine-fed pump action shotgun, reloading would have been much faster as long as I still had loaded mags to use. We ran the drill for around 30-40 rounds. Sure, that's probably an unrealistic number of shots for a "shotgun fight scenario." But, unless I had 5-8 loaded magazines on me, I'd never have been able to complete that drill with a magazine-fed shotgun.

One of the benefits of a defensive pump-action shotgun is the ability to quickly change loads on a per-shell basis, if desired. That isn't possible with the mag-fed guns.

Regardless, I'd probably still get one of these just because the NY elites hate the idea of detachable magazine fed firearms.

BTW - Now that I'm much more facile and confident in the use of my rifles, pistols, and shotguns, I'd certainly grab a pistol or MSR before a shotgun in a home defense situation.

@Phazer it ran that way because the instructor set it up that way to tailor to tube fed shitguns cause that is what most people have.

Watching mag fed shotguns perform in 3 gun is amazing. They can change shot size and kind. Slugs to bird and back. And do it very fast. Lightning fast. The mags hold 10-20 rounds. They are big, yes.

But the mags are plastic and do not weigh anythibg. The shells are where the weight is. Several 10 rounds and some 20 round mags mixed in will get you to your 30-40 rounds easily.

It may not be the norm, but is an awesome amount of firepower that can be adapted quickly (bird, buck, slug, duck or geese. )

Again. Not a normal setup, but doable if someone wanted.
