New Savage Precision Series Rifles With MDT Chassis

Im looking to get a 6.5 creedmoor chassis rifle that would certainly be sub moa, if not half moa. Im not ready to buy yet, likely it will still be 3-4 months, but im in my "homework" phase.

The tikka t3x tac a1 seems to fit that criteria well, but i really like the look of this chassis on the savage.

Then I think, perhaps i should buy a standard tikka t3x and pick up a mdt chassis. Any of these options would be close to 2 grand with tax, ffl, etc... Now if im willing to go up to 2 grand is it worth spending a little more on something custom, and if so what to go with? Or, can I get that kind of accuracy with the remington pcr or the rpr, and are they worth it?

I can keep tight groups, although im sure these rifles would all out perform me, but im looking to change that.

Idlike some opinions from experienced precision experts.

I’m no expert but I like precision rifles. If I went with the t3x, I would at least get the varmint barreled one. They go for $900 on eurooptics, then pick a chassis. I like the tac1 but I have never shot one, I have read great review for the tac1

When I first wanted a precision rifle, I looked up a lot of custom rifle. I really didn’t want to wait for a custom rifle. Then I started checking out high end factory rifles. It came down to the accuracy international AT and the sako trg. I ended up with a accuracy international AT that was on sale. I am very happy with my AIAT and it shoots better than me. But it’s a $4k rifle. If I was looking to spend $2k right now on a rifle, I would get this this.....

Granted its a little more money, it’s not a 6.5cm but it’s a 6.5 caliber with a little more ass behind it.

Good info, thanks. Although im set on 6.5 creedmoor. I do like the idea of a factory rifle, and I want it ina chassis. The savage i linked above has a factory blueprinted action, and thats a dolid chassis. Illbe curious to see what kind of accuracy it has, but ive heard about savages being known for extraction issues.

I have a couple savages, I haven’t had a issue with extraction. I did a savage precision build a n 6.5 cm not too long ago with a mdt chassis. I have yet to take it out. Life got busy.

Lighting suck but here they are. Top desert tech srs a-1 in 300 win mag, middle is the savage model 10 something something in 6.5 cm in a mdt chassis and bottom is the AIAT in 308

Top and bottom rifles u can switch calibers if u have any interest in that. The desert tech can be a 223 to a 338 lapua by changing the bolt and barrel. The AIAT can convert to anything in the 308 brass family by changing barrels.

If I didn't build my own rifles, I would look into the bergara B14 HMR/HMR Pro and Tikka T3 model rifles.
I've shot and worked up loads for friends that own them and they all shoot and function great.
Savage rifles are as or more accurate than most any rifle being built today, but the magazine feeding reliability has been their only downfall.
This can be overcome, but why deal with it when there are many other rifles available that run 100% out of the box.
Perfectly good for hunting and plinking, but not so when under the timer.

Agree^^^ Check out the Bergara lineup. They have been making precision barrels for many years. Their budget line is supposedly sub moa. I have the B14 in 308 which I have yet had the time to break in but fit and finish are quality. They also have them in 6.5 chambering. Really starting to see them on the racks at a lot of stores. Can probably walk in to a Bass Pro or Runnings and leave with one that day.

I'm biased on the RPR of course. Time for a new barrel this spring but the factory barrel was no slouch. I'm pleased with my simple stock accutrigger mod and even with 1600+ rounds down a smoked barrel, it still shoots sub MOA.

100 yd 5 shot group when near new...

I've got a T3 lite in .308 that I love. It's full stock right now, but thinking about a new chassis for it.

Ive never shot a bergara but ive read nothing but good things. I havent priced them out, but i believe they are expensive. Since im stuck on a chassis that will cost around a grand, id rather find a rifle that can be had for under a grand to keep total cost around 2gs for the rifle. I figure the optic will be about a grand for a total of 3gs for a complete rig.

It really would be a bench/prone target rifle and if i ever found the time id like to do some prs matches.

I've got a savage model 10 in an MDT. Very accurate. Zero feeding or extraction issues in the 3 savages I have had.

Price point on B14 is under 1k. They also have models in those fancy precision chassis which I believe run under 2k

I like the mdt acc and ess. I like the longer handguards. Id like either a 22 or 24"barrel as well. Im still saving my pennies and doing research so i have time. Id like to buy something alreqdy configured like the savage elite precision but it would depend on what kind of accuracy its capable of.

I just looked up the bergaras and i see the bmp and the lrp. Both seem like good rifles with the lrp being better, but im notcrazy about the chassis aesthetics.

I also like the Christensen arms MRP with a steel barrel, but ive read about some qc issues. I really like how they look, and that is important to me, but im not looking to spend 2grand on a questionable rifle.

I dont, and i know they do well. It is an option, but i really like the mdt acc.

If you like the mdt acc chassis, buy a barrelled action in your cartridge flavor and the chassis.
Build it in pieces, so the expenditures don't drain the bank account all at once.

Shoot it as is for now. Then wait for mdt Black Friday blemish sale. You could save a lot of money but you need to be ready to order quick for the more popular stuff. I have some of their blemish stuff, most of their blemish stuff I have I could not find the issue.

I have a howa and a weatherby. Both very accurate.
