I already put cash aside for this. I’m not a huge fan of the lines but the P938 is a fun gun to shoot, the Legion model probably makes it even more enjoyable.
My issue is from all I have read, the legion "upgrades" are actually not all that great, especially the finish

I feel like I’d have to dump as much if not more for a standard P938 to feel/shoot like a Legion or better. I like the finish, but that’s just a preference.
All it has different is sights, grips, a logo and finish that wears 3x as fast

The action is smoother and it shoots tighter in my opinion on the P229. The trigger is upgraded, or it feels upgraded. Side-by-side the standard vs Legion they feel different. The Legion approaches smooth and breaks cleanly. The P229 almost feels boggy I’m comparison.
This is an n=1 study though. Hah.

Its kinda crazy that they put a crap finish on a warriors pistol... A couple guys I know love the legion pistols they own but are very disappointed in the finish.
Same here. Love my 226 sights, grip, trigger, front and back stippling. My only disappointment is the finish. Still when you add up what you get with the gun I feel it is worth the price.
The 226 Legion is an incredibly nice pistol!!! The slide is alloy and the slide is stainless, so rust shouldnt be a factor. But, no reason for a safe queen finish.
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones... SIG 229 Legion and not a single blemish or problem with finish. A bit advanced wear at rail contact points, yes, but nothing you can see, nothing worrisome. A few thousand rounds through it as well. Had issue with sight alignment, lol- yeah it wasn't my shooting... and SIG warranty replaced/corrected sights without a problem.
That said, I don't see anything other than cosmetic upgrade to the 238/938 Legions. No trigger work... So I wouldn't jump at it. The trigger on the Legion 229 is superb! Besides, I have a 238 (yes, have the SIGness) well worn and is my little summer carry when wearing light clothes. What would I ever do with another one? Lol

It isn't a safe queen by any means. I've had it for about 2 years and she has at least 5000 rounds through her. The finish wear is from drawing and holstering.

Well, I'd say the edge 'melting' and magwell are both definitely functional changes and more than simply cosmetic. I like my p938 (carry piece) alright , but with huge hands I can't use it very well without the pinky grip extended mags. The magwell may compensate for that a bit, and potentially allow for cleaner/faster mag swaps. I don't usually like the look of a 'melt', but I can't deny it's a good functional upgrade to prevent snagging.
As for trigger work , I'd personally rather get a galloway or tillamook trigger and tune it myself anyway.
I think the "finish" issue that people keep bringing was more common with the early Legion variants. Sig seems to have ironed out some of those quality problems with the more recent models.
And I totally see both sides of the coin with regards to the Legion's value. A 229 or 226 Legion is pricey, considering that you can get a brand new, non-Legion variant for several hundred $ cheaper, or a factory-refurbished one for even less.
On the other hand, it's a pistol that would need little in the way of aftermarket work: good trigger; good sights; ergonomics are decent.
Personally, I think picking up a factory-refurbished Sig P226/P229 and installing the short reset trigger gives you a very good pistol for very good value.

My 226 has no finish issues but I will admit that she has been a safe queen for some time now. Still a beautiful looking gun.
