In an 8-0 vote Tuesday night, the city council of Tacoma, Wash., approved new taxes on the sales of firearms and ammunition.



When the taxes take effect July 1, 2020, gun buyers will pay a $25 tax on each purchase, plus 2 cents per round on ammunition of .22 caliber or less, and 5 cents per round on all other types of ammunition, the News Tribune of Tacoma reported.
The new levies are expected to raise about $30,000 annually, with the money designated for violence-prevention programs, the report said.
Council member Catherine Uska described the city’s tax plan as a model that other communities could use in addressing gun violence.

“It gives a signal to other municipalities that it’s something that they can do,” Ushka said, according to the News Tribune.

It was never about raising money or reducing crime. The sole purpose of the tax is to end gun sales in Tacoma and effectively mute the 2nd Ammendment via taxation. It is just another strategic move by the progressive Communist left to achieve total civilian disarmament. They may be Communists (all of the city council) but they certainly aren't stupid. They know the Communist supreme court will uphold this even though it truly is an infringement on the 2nd Ammendment.

yes, but Seattle passed the law with the hope of raising $300-$500,000 a year, this year the city made less than $100,000. So the city is actually losing money. But like most Liberals, they don't care about money until the bill comes do, then they will raise taxes to cover their ignorant losses

Nope. The Cook County (Chicago) taxes ($25 per gun, 5 cents per round) from several years ago survived each court challenge. Gun shops all closed when shoppers crossed state lines and eventually they stopped trying to collect the ammo tax.
