The OneNYC2050 plan, which de Blasio dubbed “New York City’s Green New Deal,” is a $14 billion environmental initiative that aims to reduce the city’s greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 and full carbon neutrality by 2050.
It focuses on energy-efficient changes for the transportation, real estate, and electricity industries and includes banning single-use plastic foodware.
De Blasio also plans on slashing the city’s beef consumption by 50% as well as phasing out processed meat in city-controlled agencies such as schools, hospitals, and correctional facilities.
“Every day we wait is a day our planet gets closer to the point of no-return. New York City’s Green New Deal meets that reality head on,” de Blasio said in a statement.
