New York lawmaker urges Cuomo to provide tenant, landlord relief in state budget

One of the New York State Senate’s most powerful Democrats has called on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to pay landlords and provide tenants with rent relief as part of a $2 billion state budget proposal in an effort to stem the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

So now the obvious question. Where is the money going to come from for this? New York is waiting to find out exactly how much more they’re going to get in COVID relief from the federal government. If it’s not enough, the next step is pretty obvious.

I could see this being used against Cuomo either way he acts. If he does nothing he contributes to more nyc property owners fleeing the city and the decline of city, if he helps the landlords I could see him being blasted for helping the rich landlords. Well as an investment property owner myself, I am blessed with tenants who have begged, borrowed, and possibly stolen to pay their rent. One is in serious kidney failure and the other has been in and out of the hospital for months. There are certainly pieces of shit out there taking advantage of a free ride, but mine are not among them. While it's nice to say "let them fail", I cannot afford to pay two mortgages and am left with the potential for tenants who could tell me to piss off at any time. My hard earned money paid the down payment, and any other monies I invested in improvements and repairs. I did not create the pandemic but making a blanket decree that all debts are forgiven was an asshole decision to make.
