New York City was recently named the best place to celebrate the United States' birth. But that national pride is only skin deep — New York is actually the fifth least patriotic state in the country, according to a new WalletHub study.

The personal finance website ranked the "most patriotic" U.S. states based on 13 factors indicating their levels of military and civic engagement.

Yep. By me there are flags everywhere. Both on private houses and on public streets put up by the town board on light poles.

You know what, I gotta say I’ve been impressed by that. Took my mom and brother out to the finger lakes and you drive through these little town centers, there’s a flag on every telephone pole on their “Main Street” Just looks real nice

I live in Nassau cty NY. I would have to say that we have many flags on our street. That’s it my street! The rest of the neighborhood has nothing. It sucks being a veteran and patriot in NY.

Last month, I was in New Hampshire when the USS Manchester was at Portsmouth Harbor for the commissioning ceremony. We stopped in at a diner for breakfast and there were a couple of sailors there in uniform. There was quite literally a line of people there to shake their hands. People were pissed off that they missed the opportunity to pay for their meal. It was quite impressive. I’ve never seen anything quite like that here.

And no, I didn’t walk over and shake their hands. I just didn’t want to interrupt their breakfast any more than what had already been done. I caught the attention of one of them and nodded in acknowledgment. He nodded and smiled in return.

NH is a top state. All my friends and family there are freedom loving individuals with a deep sense of patriotism. The place is a slice of heaven

Mostly. It's slowly getting destroyed by the Massholes moving north. The Seacoast region gets downright scary sometimes, as do the college towns. North of 101 is God's country. If it wasn't for all the damned snow, I'd have moved there 10 years ago.
