New York Retailers Blast Gov. Hochul After Losing $4.4 Billion to Theft Last Year​

Hochul vetoed a proposal last week that would have created a 15-member task force of appointed experts to tackle organized retail crime, to the “chagrin” of store owners, the New York Post reported.

“Stores that invest in New York communities lose $4.4 billion to retail theft, and this illegal activity certainly has community safety implications.”

Oh, we can arrest. I just spend more time in the booking area than the skell does. They're given their DAT within 2 hours. I have to spend my time going through the store's depositions, and transcribe my BWC footage step by step in my report. So it's about 4 hours from arrest to going back on patrol for me.

Just to go back to the SAME STORE for "Security holding 1" and starting it ALL OVER AGAIN.

The only answer to this trend is to use a system like Instant Cart...in selected areas and communities as a "test bed" and a checkout door like a metal detector walk thru.......that all paid for goods must go thru physically, separated from the shopper...........like at an airport line........

Jumpers and runners with steaks and tools, can be easily stopped this way....................

It will push attacks on shoppers and goods, to just outside the store which is the very best thing that can happen...open air attacks on normal unarmed people...............might get some change in the free bail situation and more work for ER's for concussions, stabbings shootings, beatings.

My sister worked for a Wegmans years ago. As a group of people that stole food.... were teachers .. They would have overcoats with built in pockets .. Open the coat and slip in some steaks .... Walk right out the door. .. Smash and grab probably not ....

I am not saying that's not a factual story but it makes little sense. I realize that shoplifting transcends all socioeconomic groups, but a "group" meaning some sort of organization, of well paid, masters educated professionals, of which an arrest might jeopardize their job, seems difficult to comprehend.
