Meaning the forced labor that soldiers deal with. Longggggggggg hours, no overtime pay. Never ending shifts, 24 hour work days... So on and so on

Modern GI Bill is nothing like what we had back in the day. More like a matching 401k gotta put in to get anything out.
Modern GI Bill is insane. I only caught the tail end of it and it still paid me enough to cover college and save for my house down payment. It covers family members now too.
My post-911 GI Bill, wow, paid me a lot for my police academy, after that, I transferred the rest into my two step kids names. Both of them went to Community college for free, also paid over $1000 to live on. (I kept that cause they were still living at home). Much better than my original GI Bill of the early 90's.
I forgot about the academy. I believe I got $700-something every month while I was in the academy and through the length of my field training period.
I waited for all training to be over before I submitted my paperwork. I got a back pay check for over $6000.

Damn. You guys with the Montgomery GI Bill were spoiled. The Marine one was very minimal. A lot less money.
Isn't the GI Bill for everyone? I think you are referring to the Army College Fund. That was Army specific and extra.
I never switched to Post 9/11 by the way. I was nearing the end of my limit in months and the school counselor at the time told me that it looked like the original GI Bill would pay more in my circumstances because at the time, NY was giving free tuition to combat veterans at SUNY/CUNY colleges.

I got $200 a month for 6 months, then $150 a month for six months, then $100 a month for 6 months, then $50 a month for six months, then it was over. This was in 1972.

I think it was the army college fund that airborne guy was talking about. But I kind of remember we were only able to get the GI bill in the army was able to get the Montgomery GI Bill.

Yeah MGIB was for everyone. Army had a separate fund that increased benefits. Then the Post 9/11 GI Bill was created which is worlds better.
