I have been teaching classes at Connecticut ranges for 5 years. Being so close to NY, folks ask if they can bring their NY permitted handguns, long guns, etc. to CT. While I would never offer legal advice, the answer, for the most part, is yes. Bear in mind, if you do not have a CT permit - which they do offer to non residents, that you should travel to CT with your guns unloaded, in a locked container and ammunition separate. For rifles/carbines, keep in mind CT has their own "assault weapon" laws. For example, even though CT is an NFA state, I was denied permission to bring my legally registered SBR's to CT. The ATF stated it fell under CT's definition of an "assault weapon". Magazines are also restricted. "Other firearms" are legal in CT, but like NY, make sure the "other" that you purchase, is legal in CT. As an example Troy others, are not legal in NY. As I understand it, the manufacturer had to file paperwork with the ATF for each state (if you have clarification on that, please post in the comments). Others that are legal in NY, that don't brake the bank - Stag Arms & Zev Tech ($1,200-$1,500). Not sure if they are CT legal.
So do your research - the CT State police is a good place to start. If you have an "other", check with the manufacturer as well. Again, THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE. Just a PSA. Some people are unaware and could find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
