Newbie question pertaining to bullet

OK I bought some Lapua 155-Grain Mega 6.5x55 SE, for my creedmoore. But I figured I should should check here before I blow my face off. its a nice face, and I still need it for a while.

But I was concerned that it was for the swiss 6.5 x 55, I read some people using it in the creedmoore , and probably so as the dimensions seems to be correct. But I didn't want to risk my face on it. Im just double checking here with you guys.

The 6.5 Creedmore and 6.5x55 are physically much different, but as far as using projectiles designed for the 6.5x55 in the CM there's NO ISSUE.
The beauty of the Creedmore is its shorter case allowing for the long skinny "torpedo's" that made the Swedish Round so accurate and popular.

Look for some reloading data. Find a powder that works for that weight. Make sure you seat without jamming lands.

6.5mm Creedmoor is a popular long range caliber. Other than that I know nothing about it. accurateshooter.com should have good information on this.

Check your recipe books. They should give you projectile dimensions (diameter) and acceptable bullet weight for the round you want to load.

As long as the bullet diameter is right and the bullet weight is listed with a charge weight for the powder you wast to use and minimum OAL for the cartridge, you're good to go.

Looks like it would make a great hunting bullet. Everyone gave good advice, but I want to reiterate what Carlos Hathcock said about making sure it doesn't jam in the lands. In this regard, I would suggest loading up a dummy round long and intentionally jamming it to see what your jam length is. Here's a video on how to do that:

If you jam it and the round is longer than your minimum cartridge overall length, you're good (as long as you can find load data for it).

I was a little more concerned about the diameter. this one appears to be a little larger than the normal 264. just an observation. But a test dummy would still be a great idea to see if it seats well

As far as I know, the 6.5 Swede and 6.5 Creedmoor share the same bullet diameter. If you're worried about that, take that bullet and one you know is meant for a 6.5 CM (pull it from a factory round if you have to), and measure their diameters at the base.

Also, to contradict what I previously said about COAL, I just realized... Load data you find for similar weight 6.5 CM will likely be using spitzer profile bullets. Using such a blunt-nosed bullet profile, your cartridge overall length may well be shorter, and quite a bit shorter, than what's listed in the load data for a 6.5 CM load using a similar weight, spitzer profile bullet.

I think the safest way to load that if it's the case that you can't find load data for that specific bullet profile would be to find the jam length, seat it 0.020" deeper than the jam, and work up at that COAL.

Sure enough, Hodgdonreloading.com has data for a 153 grain Hornady A-Tip, which is very much a long, sleek spitzer bullet. I would bet that the jam length for that 155 grain Lapua is shorter than minimum COAL Hodgdon lists using that bullet.

I would be too. Until you get it confirmed by several sources, don't load it. This bullet seems on a heavy side for that caliber. That could be an issue as well.

Below are recipes for 153gr bullet which should be very usable for 155gr. I would reduce the load by at least a couple grains to start.

Here are some recipes for 153gr projectiles. I would start a couple grains under. The important thing is that your OAL remains in spec.
Without having a bullet in front of me, I couldn't tell you what your seating depth is or where your crimp will land, but 2.825" is your sweet spot for the 6.5CM. I'd also check your barrel twist rate to make sure that it can stabilize what I believe are relatively heavy projectiles for this cartridge.
Personally, I use 129gr Speers and 143gr Hornady ELD-X on 6.5 Staball and they perform extremely well.

The Creedmoor uses VLD bullets that have an ogive pretty far back from the tip of the end of the bullet. The one you ordered seems to have an ogive closer to the tip than the VLD bullets. As others have said make a dummy and see where it hits the lands In the barrel. I bet you are going to find you have to seat the bullet pretty deep into the case for it to clear the lands. My bolt guns like the ogive about .005 off the lands, for my gas guns I run them about .020 off the lands to ensure proper chambering. If you cannot find Lapua load data for those bullets in the Creedmoor and haven’t opened them I would send them back.

Yes, OAL is not helpful when the ogive change is so dramatic do I wouldn't use that metric for loading that bullet.

I had found a recipe for the round in 6.5 creedmoore in one of my reloading books , so I did end up reloading it . I took a dummy round and loaded and extracted it with no issues , so I'm a little more confident with it now.

I have enough once-fired brass to last a lifetime. I did reload Black Hills brass in the past. It was the best brass I ever used. I think I got something like 12 firings out of it, before I retired it.

I have a bunch of loaded Lapuas, Havent reloaded them yet, I read they can get as many as 15-20 reloads out them, which actually makes them pretty reasonable.
