and I'm sure popo had to know of such a large gatheringNEWBURGH – A notification from the City of Newburgh Police Department’s high-tech Shot Spotter program led to the arrest of a Walden man for allegedly firing a gun into the air while in a large crowd.
City Police were called to the report of shots fired in the area of South Lander Street and Courtney Avenue at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. They were met with a crowd of some 200 people resulting in additional police officers being called in from the towns of Newburgh and New Windsor and State Police.
Officers received information describing the man who fired the gun and officers found him in possession of two semi-automatic handguns.
He was identified as Jermaine Monroe, 37, of Walden, who along with his wife, were both legal gun owners with a valid pistol permit in Sullivan County.
Monroe’s wife also had a .380 semi-automatic handgun on her.
In addition to the three firearms, four more were recovered from the Monroe’s vehicle – two semi-automatic handguns and two long guns.
Jermaine Monroe was charged with reckless endangerment as a felony.
