. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said Wednesday on “The Laura Ingraham Show” that Tuesday’s bombshell report revealing that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign paid for the discredited dossier on President Donald Trump and Russia “is just the tip of the iceberg.”
Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, addressed The Washington Post’s report that Democrats paid for the research that went into crafting the report by retaining the research firm Fusion GPS. Noting that this piece of news is “a major scandal” for Clinton and her party, Nunes said “the only reason” this information came out was that the House Intelligence Committee subpoenaed documents from Fusion GPS.
Another important question the committee is still trying to answer is whether or not the FBI and the Department of Justice "used this dossier," paid for by the Clinton campaign and the DNC, to "open counterintelligence investigations into the opposing party" during a presidential election.
"That kind of stuff only happens in third-world countries," Nunes said. "And we've been asking DOJ and FBI whether or not they used this dossier for months, actually I believe since March 6. So this is going to bring back — this should send chills down everybody's spine — if in fact this dossier, which is paid opposition research, was picked up by the FBI and used for any type of investigation."
