Does anyone on here know much about applying for and or having a gun trust and what the benefits of having one in NY would be? Are there more options with what you can have on your gun trust if you’re in Law Enforcement?

Not sure I'm following? Are you LEO? The two (trusts and LEO "loopholes") don't intersect in NY anyway, to my knowledge. I'm not a cop (are you?) but once you retire all that property isn't yours anymore, you don't get to keep it even if you paid for it.. Our local LE community may or may not weigh in and tell me I just factually stepped on my dick- which is entirely possible.
State law prohibits almost (*almost*) everything on NFA from John Q. Public. I suppose a trust would be helpful for those few things that we might be allowed to have.
I think you would be better off pursuing the proper federal FFL credentials if you want to possess things that are generally verboten to us plebes in NY state.

As far as LEO goes "yes" you can posses a wider array of things then can us lowly citizens but a NFA Trust applies to multiple people "the trust" is a joint ownership of the items.The LEO exception only applies to that one singular person and cannot be shared within a group like a trust even if it were to be a trust of multiple LEO all members would need to be LEO in good standing.Should any "trustee" loose the privilege applied to a LEO that person would need to be removed from the trust.Basically every member of the trust is equal in rights , ownership and restrictions .Just because one Trustee is LEO does not allow other none LEO to share exceptions to restrictions.This was from looking into a NFA trust across NY and VT involving family members one being retired LEO and one being current military

As BDinPutnam said you probably better off looking into FFL 01, 05, 07 you get to play with more then the average civilian but as I recall it is expensive and restrictions change depending on BATFE mood and who is in political power
I am a Law Enforcement Officer. Yes, there are things that I am legally allowed to own and do own that regular citizens are unable to in the state of NY (which is ridiculous in the first place) since LEO’s are exempt from the Safe Act. But I’ve been seen many people mention NFA trusts in numerous states. So I was curious what exactly it was, and what the benefits of having one are. I don’t want it to come across as the “I’m better than you” mentality or anything like that, because I’m not. I’m just looking at my options and seeing if it’s possible to broaden the options of what I am able to possess and take full advantage of what I can have, just like anyone should. If it means anything, I feel that normal citizens should be able to possess the same things that LEO’s are able to. But if myself or anyone else is able to find a way to possess a few more things then they were able to before...I’m all for it.

A trust allows multiple people to “own” a/many NFA items so that if one of them dies the NFA items do not end up in law enforcement hands while the paperwork is sorted out. In the PRNY everyone in the trust has to have the same exemptions otherwise they would be guilty of owning illegal firearms. If the other members of the trust live in different states that complicates things a bit. Owners of NFA items have to inform the ATF that those items will be crossing state lines when they go across borders. Best to contact an attorney if you are seriously considering a trust.
When I found out suppressors were GTG, I looked into it but am not comfortable with the federal restrictions in general, and the fact that at any time, a new police commissioner could just open a draw, pull out the notifications we have to send him and confiscate them all. I plan to move eventually and the whole thing just seems like a nightmare to deal with.
I absolutely plan on contacting an attorney regarding the NFA trust, since they’ll be the professionals in the matter. I was just trying to get a little bit more information on the matter before I contacted them, so I have some grasp on the subject and know what I should be asking them. As alluded to, I think the cross border stuff will complicate in practice, but probably isnt a deal breaker if you are willing to put up with that (not to mention all the other crap that comes along with NFA).

I absolutely understand where you are coming from. I’m definitely not trolling, I can’t stand people like that. Just a regular guy trying to exercise his second amendment right to the fullest. My main reason for looking into this is for acquiring a suppressor. Not even SBR’s so much since my AR pistol is practically the same thing. But being able to put a can on my 10.5” MK18 inspired pistol would be sweet.

I've set up a trust for a suppressor. I went through the Silencer Shop, which makes it very simple. Once the purchase of the silencer is approved by the BATF, additional people can be added to the trust. The trust paperwork that I purchased is for a one time, specific suppressor. It is possible to purchase the paperwork for an "unlimited" trust, which allows you to add multiple NFA items to your trust paperwork. However, each purchase still has to go through the BATF approval process.
I'm looking at filing a Form 1 as an individual for my next suppressor, as the wait for a Form 1 is just weeks versus months to over a year for a Form 4, whether a trust or as an individual.

I’ve also thought about doing the Form 1 for a diy project. If I was to go that route I’d have to find someone with a good head on there shoulders with a nice machine shop to do the work on the baffles and everything. My only thing is I want a Surefire suppressor to go onto my Surefire Warcomp. Since the Surefire suppressors come with the QD ability to go on and come off real quick just like my current Surefire Warden does.

just so you know ANY suppressor repair must be done by an 02/07 I belive those are the 2. If you go form 1 (build it your self ) YOU MUST DO ALL THE WORK YOURSELF. Shops cannot most will not build parts for you as each and EVERY part except wipes are considered suppressor by the BATFE requiring a stamp .If going form 1 you cannot have spare parts except wipes .You cannot repair it unless to replace wipes only a 02/07 can repair it or factory. Suppressors are an odd thing if your building , there's a very narrow isle to walk to stay legal often store bought with factory support is better. Here is an example: you stamp your tube (BATFE RULES) and some how screw it up.Start over throw the old one away ?......NOPE..... you are required by law to get a new stamp "it's a different suppressor now" These are just some rules from 8 years ago I'm sure they got stricter.

Nope not here in NY. Vermont allows ownership so it's nice to have friends there
