Night vision rifle scopes

Hey guys, looking for some advice from anyone with knowledge/experience in the realm of night vision rifle scopes. I've been doing a lot of research on these and there seems to be a lack of reliable/useful information on these things. What's the best NV rifle scope for under $1500?

Are you only considering strictly NV (image intensification ala PVS14) or also thermal (ala FLIR)?
What kind of distance are you typically shooting?
Do you already have any NV or thermal handheld for scanning?
What is primary target? People? Or critters?

Pulsar N960 LRF
Sightmark Photon XT
Armasight Nemesis

I have never owned any NV or Thermal devices. I'm looking for effective range out to 300 with primary target being coyote. I have not explored the thermal route mostly because of the budget I'm working with. Do you have any experience with the ones that I've listed? Are the $1500 units that much better than the $430 Photon XT with an upgraded IR illuminator?

Been looking to purchase a monocular and scope for awhile. Without knowing how good each unit is I goto Optics Planet website and look at the reviews.

They have a monocular that gets 25 great reviews for a 159 bucks (Firefield),,,they have an Armasight Vampire scope that gets excellent reviews for $795.

I almost just spit out the money to buy them but the amount of money I have spent in the last month kept me from doing so.

I have never tried any you mentioned. If you can stretch to abou $1900 the FLIR PTS233 is an excellent thermal scope that is 1.5x native and 6x digital zoom.

Where do u find the PTS233 At $1900? I can only find them for $2200. My googlefu is weak with night vision.

I have never tried any you mentioned. If you can stretch to abou $1900 the FLIR PTS233 is an excellent thermal scope that is 1.5x native and 6x digital zoom.

This will allow you to detect critters you might never see otherwise (even with NV image intensification). I think the drawback will be resolution at 300 yards. I am guessing that Fido and a yote will look identical at that distance. Now a Magnus D790 Gen 3 unfilmed white phosphorus on the otherhand...

Yeah from what I've read the best application for Thermal is as a scanning tool. If money was no concern I'd have a $3k Thermal to scan and a gen3 NV mounted to the rifle for taking the shot. But....since I'm not not dropping $6K I really like the simplicity and reliability of the Photon XT not to mention the price ($430). If I thought that spending another thousand bucks would provide a major difference in clarity and effective range I'd spend the $$. At this point I'm not so sure that's the case.

There's always the ATN X-Sight which can be used day or night. I've looked through one at a gun shop, and it seemed decent. I've got a Yukon NV scope on one of my carbines, and it performs okay. I believe it's called the varmint hunter and it was made in Belarus and came with a lifetime warranty. I went with that particular model because it uses AA batteries. I also use a PVS-14, but mostly for walking at night. I use thermal scopes for scanning, because they're much more effective than NV for picking up the location and movement of mammals. The thermal scopes will even pick up foot prints, if they're fresh. It's pretty funny to walk the dog and see her foot prints....
