These projectiles can be loaded in standard 5.56/.223 cases, and according the Franklin they bring the accuracy to 1 MOA at 100 yards.

Ahh ok that makes sense.
Yeah I read that part but being solid coppers and a totally new design I'd imagine they will be quite expensive (if even available as a reloading component). Who's to say they won't be like those certain types of ammo where you can't even buy the bullets to reload them yourself. Being solid copper they will be expensive even when they aren't new and innovative anymore. If someone could create a normal lead bullet that somehow worked with the straight rifling to spin I would call this ground breaking.
This is a lot of nonsense to go through for nothing more than a shorter barrel with a "real" stock.
Considering the tacit approval of "braces" that are effectively stocks themselves, there are no pros to this thing but plenty of cons.

While it is pointless for most of the nation, see my previous posts for a very good pro about it. Even if it is gimmicky, it's kinda awesome for ny.
It doesn’t do anything extra for NY. You’d still need to fix the mag. If you don’t, you’d have to put one of those funky grips or stocks on, totally changing it.
And off the top of my head, I’m pretty sure NY defines barrel and overall length and such. If that definition is worded differently, even that small “benefit” would be negated.

I’m fairly certain this would fall under “firearm” in NY.

distance between the muzzle and the face of the bolt, breech, or
breechlock when closed and when the shotgun or rifle is cocked; the
overall length of a weapon made from a shotgun or rifle is the distance
between the extreme ends of the weapon measured along a line parallel to
the center line of the bore. Firearm does not include an antique
firearm.

So by the letter of the law, this does not fall into those categories and is not an 'assault weapon' based on NY or Federal Law/definitions. (safe act wording also included)

well That was kind of the point of this gun, (Not to be as specific as NY, because franklin armory doesnt give a **** about NY.) But they purposely built it not to meet the definitions of rifle or shot gun (or pistol) so that it would not meet those definitions and not fall under the NFA regulations. By being an 'other' it is not mentioned in the safe act or other NY laws, or even federal restrictive laws or definitions. Since NY defines firearms the same as the federal definitions, it does not meet the safe act definitions of an assault weapon.
If its not a rifle, and not a shot gun, why would it magically be included in a law the specifically points out features and what not? Laws are restrictive not permissive...... or at least thats what its supposed to be.
