Now they desire to ban the semiautomatic mechanism in any gun sold or owned in Massachusetts.

Ah, lying with statistics, claiming that good old Massachusetts proves that guns are bad.
There's a few problems with this. New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Idaho, and Utah all have lower murder rates, "despite" some of the highest gun ownership rates and lowest gun regulations. Apparently, there are other "factors" which matter more than guns. What might those be?
Within the U.S., there seems to be more of a correlation between suicide deaths and firearm ownership, but, that's not clear-cut; Texas, for instance, is #40 in suicide, and of course, internationally, many developed countries with total civilian gun bans have much higher rates of suicide; just look at South Korea. Russia is #3 despite highly restrictive gun laws and much lower gun ownership. If you want a purely western example. Belgium is higher (extremely very strict gun laws), and Greenland is #1 in suicide in the entire world (strict gun laws, lower gun ownership than USA).
You might think we could learn something from Greenland; 63% of their suicides are not by firearms (which are only owned by about 20% of households), and even just those 63% would still make them #1 in the world all by themselves. And in South Korean civilians can't get firearms at all, yet their suicide rate is 60% higher than ours.
Anyway, others' choice of effective tool to off themselves, while sad and something we should work to prevent, does not justify taking away my constitutional and natural rights.
