Doesn't Russia only have one funky old carrier from 30 years ago? Like they had 2 but China bought one; or something like that? I don't see how one carrier group will have a ton of impact on ISIS. They hide in elementary schools and hospitals

Russia has been generating relatively impressive sortie rates with limited equipment. They are now increasing their available firepower and assets in the region.

And yes it's an old carrier on it's own would be no match for American power but will be used to destroy Aleppo even more. It probably has a contingent of a few (like maybe 8) under armed su33s and mig 29s needing to stay under weight because of their goofy ski jump take off. Not very impressive but none the less it is bringing more assets in the theater.

I mostly brought this up because it shows Russia is doubling down and committed to wiping out Syrian resistance. This is at odds over what it looks like the US wants. So that seems to lead to us either having to try and force Russia's hand, or just totally back off and admit another foreign policy failure. Our idiots leaders seem to be making a habit out of doubling down on bad decisions so who knows where this goes.

We have a long history of backing the wrong horse. At first we loved Saddam because he went toe-to-toe with Iran and we decided we no longer liked Khomeini (after Carter said he was a hero and Times made him man of the year). Then after years of being buddies with Saddam, when he stands up to Kuwait cross-drilling and stealing his oil and he invades - poof! We aren't his buddy and we roll over him because we think betraying a many-decade friend is not as valuable as installing a Democracy in the Middle East and seeing if it takes hold. We picked that poor schlub because his party was basically secular (Baath party). We didn't want to make it about religion for fear of losing too much oil. That's not a conspiracy. A planet has something called a "carrying capacity". The 8 billion on this planet needs to get down to 2 billion for the planet to have fully renewable resources with zero catastrophic impact on the planetary ecosystem. It will happen on it's own - doesn't need a secret cabal. Starvation, disease, natural disaster, economy, etc. It will drive down the size of the human population. Many scientists feel 2 billion is the carrying capacity. Seems legit to me. Stop sending aid to other countries, stop immigration, and let these other countries settle into more natural / sustainable population sizes.
