I predict that NY City is headed for a Silent Spring this year.

NY City has a 70 Billion Dollar Budget. That budget was created and exists based on NY City real estate taxes being paid on the property being rented for very high dollars per sq foot. The pandemic shutdown has destroyed that market along with the restaurants and all the other services.

People were not allowed to work and Cuomo protected Rent payers from evictions.

Rent payers are handing in the keys on their leases to the landlords that were charging thousands per sq ft and saying C’ya. Sue me if you want.

Now comes springtime the City is going to start collecting Real Estate Tax and it ain’t going to me there.

The Bubble is going to not just pop, but explode.

The State with its paltry 7 Billion Dollar budget is going to implode too.

They will go to Biden and beg for a bailout crying we are too big to fail.

The Reality is, cuts are going to have to happen. But if you know the Democrats in power, that is the furthest thing from their minds.

So once the bubble pops, will it give rise to the zombies? Personally, I don't feel sorry for the City that never sleeps. I am worried about the effect on the rest of the state when it happens.

They can try -- but they forgot that I'm not tied to an office. I can leave this state at any time (as soon as my wife agrees ...)

Also, as someone who works in big tech, the OVERWHELMING amount of people in the industry now do not want an office. They have gotten a taste of being fully remote, and people in big tech do not want offices anymore.

Several people at work left the department actually and went other places specifically because the company I work for is being cagey about their after-pandemic remote work stance.. Places that are paying... a lot of money. A surprising amount of money even, for remote workers and no office.

I don't know what other people were offered, but one guy I think took a senior software developer position to the tune of 400-500k per year, base. Or so I've been told via the office gossip. I was quite shocked that competition has gotten that fierce, but maybe the push towards technology solutions to deal with the pandemic has made a shortage of engineers or something. Never used to see salaries like that for remote work.

Anyway, the point being, with competition high, and people mobile, it's going to be a tough sell to bring anyone into an office anytime soon. Cuomo has, as my mother likes to say "Champagne taste, but beer pockets" when it comes to being able to afford enough "incentive" to bring these people back into an office setting.

There is no problem bailing out NY $hitty and the State. The furher has a blank check with bidoon...Working people will pay for this...everyone will see the cost of living in NY INCREASE....(one recent example is NY Toll...30% more if no E-Z pass,so they know where a person travels) Weed will be legal....gambling expanded..prostitution next. While some will spread their legs for money..most will spread their cheeks because of the furher and the Albany MOB. People have a choice....register and vote..or leave the State. Renters don’t need to pay rent but the owners still need to pay taxes. I get it’s not income coming from paying renters and they won’t pay tax on that income. The renters will never get their money and the government will bail them out too because well people need places to live or the new low will happen.
I have a feeling they have wanted state owned property in NYC for a long time and I think this will try to be a grab for that. I think the city will take property of those that didn’t pay and not auction it off.

I don't know that to be true. If it is, it hasn't always been that way, and I remember a time when upstaters complained that NYC is a tax drain on the rest of the state. They have sucked the life out of this once most prosperous region of the country through over taxing, over regulating and indeed steeling the very freedoms that have made America great.
If it is so, good, someone please tell that commie fuck that runs the Rotten Apple that he can wipe out all his debt by severing all ties with Upstate NY which starts at a bridge yet to be determined.
