NY Gov. Kathy Hochul Responds to Subway Safety Concerns: Crime Surge ‘Cannot Continue’​

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) has responded to the mounting criticism about how unsafe and violent New York City’s subway has gotten, saying the recent “surge” in crimes on the transit system “cannot continue.”

Touting her deployment of 1,000 National Guard members to patrol the subway and the installation of cameras in every subway car, Hochul said her methods are “helping police solve crimes even faster,” according to a Friday statement from her office.
“The recent surge in violent crimes in our public transit system cannot continue — and we need to tackle this crisis head-on,” the governor began. “Many of these horrific incidents have involved people with serious untreated mental illness, the result of a failure to get treatment to people who are living on the streets and are disconnected from our mental health care system.”
She concluded her message with “Public safety is my top priority and I will do everything in my power to keep New Yorkers safe.”

That situation will NEVER be fixed UNTIL:

1. The violent mentally ill are put away.
2. All Illegals are deported.
3. The MTA is completely overhauled.
4. The fare evaders (who, the last I heard make up about 50% of riders overall, which is financially crippling the MTA) are completely stopped and jailed.

I would expect the situation would change quickly if public transporation became the only allowed compensated travel for State and City managers to include the mayor and gov. I would expect it to be fixed after the first day. Think of the reduction of traffic and pollution THAT would bring. I watched a City worker complaining about the new toll for Manhattan on a network….as she drove by herself in a car into the city. Want to fix a problem, require the managers who can affect it live within it; no just visit. If everyone no longer is compensated with State funded vehicles and taxi’s, I’ll bet a lot of things that everyday folks HAVE to live with. Think of the parking that would open up. Gov and Mayor can lead the example. THEN lets make it the standard in DC and others.

There has already been feedback that people are gun shy because of the Penny factor. People (like the ones who walked by the lady set on fire) afraid to TAKE ACTION because of the States Liability that is perceived.
