NY Governor: Progressive wave ‘not even a ripple’
One of the stranger moments following the end of the New York Democratic gubernatorial primary was the distinct absence of the winner, Governor Andrew Cuomo, on television. He spent the evening at the Governor’s mansion with his family. But when he finally emerged this weekend, he had plenty to say. It wasn’t exactly a victory dance, but his more than 30 point trouncing of actress and activist Cynthia Nixon clearly left him feeling his oats. As far as the flood of challenges to establishment candidates by the party’s socialist wing, Cuomo seemed to scoff, saying that the wave wasn’t even a ripple. (The Guardian)

Democratic New York governor Andrew Cuomo has said the so-called insurgent progressive wave in his party is “not even a ripple”, arguing that it’s pragmatists like him who can get things done who are the true progressives.

Cuomo, a two-term Democratic incumbent, on Thursday defeated challenger Cynthia Nixon by a 30-point margin – turning back the latest attempt by a newcomer from the left to unseat a Democrat favored by the establishment.

The governor, viewed as a potential 2020 presidential contender, used a victory lap press conference on Friday to make a forceful case for his own vision of the party.

There’s yet another reference to Cuomo’s barely concealed thoughts of being the next President. He certainly sounds like he’s making a pitch to a national audience rather than just his home state. He’s talking about how he “delivers progressive results” rather than just talking about it.

Assholio wants it both ways; touts how NYC “progressive values” apply to the whole state (a.k.a. jammed up our asses) but then tries to scale it back for a national audience. Stupid bastard thinks free staters will buy his crap. I’m looking forward to the day when he really pisses off Trump...

This will piss off the progressives. Molinaro is already trying to get them on his side. Don’t think it will work, but they might vote 3rd party, encourage Nixon to run 3 rd party, or maybe they will just stay home.

The percentages may not have looked great but considering he received 800K+ votes and Nixon received 400K+ votes, it was a strong primary turnout but in a general election he may be screwed if he keeps deriding Nixon.

Cuomo only beat Astorino by 400K+ votes, if many of those voters vote Nixon on The Working Families line,,,,,,that opens up potential IF WE SHOW UP WITH FRIENDS and get it done.

Now think about this. In the last election der furher only won by 400K votes. Yet the Dems supposedly outnumber the Repubs almost 3x!

And, in a State with over 6 million registered Dems, only 1.2 million participated in the Primary, and that is considered a strong turnout?

only 1.2 mil out of 6 mil thought either candidate was worth voting for.

If only Molinaro could somehow appeal to the remaining Dems in this State.

Then again, if there aren't any actual ads being broadcast how will anyone know he's even running?

Here in New York we've come down to two choices:
1) A "socialist" with communist tendancies
2) A "progressive" with fascist tendancies.

It's up to the People of New York to say "HELL NO!"

Because der fuhrer isn't a progressive, he's a fascist.
The original mindset of a progressive was that everyone should be able to live their lives the way they want, as long as it wasn't interfering with the Rights of others. The idea of two consenting adults being able to partake of the same Rights as everyone else.
Somehow, in the last ten years or so, this has been perverted into "you MUST accept our lifestyles, or else!!!" and, lately, has taken a drastic turn into "you will live your life the way I tell you to" at gunpoint.
What was once a movement for personal freedom has become the poster child for draconian oppression the likes of which we haven't seen since Hitler and the Aryan movement. The only difference is that the "white man" is now the victim, rather than the beneficiary.

Cuomo is a petty dictator with delusions of grandeur. And, like all petty dictators, will eventually meet the same fate.

If, by some miracle, New York managed to become a Republican State, even if briefly, i would love to see them drag Cuomo and his cronies into a Court of Law for the violations of civil Rights they have perpetuated on the American Citizens of New York.
Ahh... to dream, the impossible dream!

@Grimscale no offense but your first paragraph does not track with the history of "progressivism" in the US. It has always been statist, it lost its racism in the late 60's. But it has never, ever had respect for the individual, at least not until the hippies took it over and melded libertinism with free stuff for all post-New Deal big government.

I do agree that Cuomo ia a facist; the closest I can come to an analogy is Mussolini.
