NY Pistol Permit Recertification Out Of State

Hey guys, saw this on another forum, was wondering what some of you may think about what this means.

Found it on the NYS Trooper website regarding recertification of our pistol permits.

Out of State residents who do not possess either a New York State Driver License or Non-Driver Identification Card:

Out of state residents who do not possess either a New York State Drive License or a Non-Driver Identification Card must use the paper form to recertify and must attach a copy of their driver's license or non-driver identification card from their state of issuance.


I may be moving out of state temporarily in July and Ive been worried about losing my permit but looking at this it looks like we can keep our permits and live out of state which is great.

I read somewhere else the requirement for a drivers license or non driver is is illegal, but nothing will happen about it until its challenged in court.

Very interesting as I’m officially a non resident just before Thanksgiving, as I’m closing on my home sale. I still have two years on my Westchester recertification.

Here's what NYS Penal Law says:

Such recertification shall be in
a form as approved by the superintendent of state police, which shall
request the license holder's name, date of birth, gender, race,
residential address, social security number, firearms possessed by such
license holder, email address at the option of the license holder and an
affirmation that such license holder is not prohibited from possessing
firearms.

It's up to your specific county where you live in now if they will let you keep it or not. Some counties will and some won't if you do not own property. The state has no say in whether they let you keep it or not.

You just wiped out a lot of CCW holding renters.

So you are thinking that if you move from one NY county to another NY county you need to reapply for a new permit. BUT if you move out of NY state all together then it might be okay to keep your permit? Does that make any sense to you? I would think that by supplying your out of state address and ID that you are giving the reason to pull your permit. Let us know how that works out.
