Sheriff Harder of Broome Co is usually quite careful how he speaks, Broome is a pretty liberal area, especially around Binghamton. He called the political leaders weak, afraid to stand up to the protesters. Only wanting their votes.
I've talked to him a few times when I was trying to get into the BCSD. He's a good man.
Wonder how this is going to affect his next election.

The laws against rioting, looting and murder are already quite clear in many long standing laws. As usual, its the enforcement of the laws thats the problem.
Heres a good bit of legislation.....
Make it illegal for police chiefs and politicians to fire an officer for upholding the law.
Like we saw in many big cities where good cops were forced to watch as thousands of felonies were commited right in front of them.
Cops forced to watch as elderly women were beaten with 2x4s.
Forced to watch the local mom and pop stores looted and burned.
I heard dozens of stories from cops who were devistated because of this.
If there is a crime with a clear victim being commited, a cop should be immune from punishment for upholding the law.
A guy I know was almost arrested a few weeks ago for peeing in a vacant parkinglot. Instead the cop decided on a $140 ticket. Due to Covid this guy couldnt find an open place to piss in downtown Jamestown......he was not drunk even.
However, in big cities you can beat a business owner and burn their property in front of a cop.

In fact the laws need to be streamlined with clear punishments for each crime. Truly victimless crimes should be dealt with on a fine or community service basis and violent crimes should lead to jail time.......a clear and concise amount of time. No good behavior, no pleas......straight time defined by crime commited.
Countries that do this have much less crime.
Right now if a guy commits burglary, he may get 2 years in prison.....or 5 years.....or 6 months......or probation.....
If everyone knew that a burglary conviction was 10 years in prison with no exceptions and no good time or early release, burglary would go down.
Enforce the laws with stiff penalties for violent crimes would decrease crime. And not jailing non violent criminals would control the prison population.

While I think well of Sheriff Harder, and most of these points would help greatly in the actual enforcement of law and order, I have to oppose most of them on the grounds of (further) creating another caste of citizens, namely those employed in law enforcement. With the exception of the "Failure to Retreat" and "Resisting Arrest" bullet points, it is my understanding that these are already covered by existing law, which applies to all citizens equally (or should anyway, dipshit DA's and prosecutors notwithstanding). Strengthen the penalties for the existing laws, by all means, but further measures applied only to law enforcement serve only to strengthen the "LEO/not LEO" divide that already exists in this state (except for the two bullet points I mentioned, which have a very specific application that I don't think is unreasonable at first glance).

and remove all the fun toys from the jails / prisons .. you get fkin nothing .. no tv time , no newspapers , no magazines . not a fkin thing ..

All Law Enforcement should step down and do as little as possible.

I think some of this will backfire if enacted. If a perp KNOWS that resisting arrest is a felony, will he not fight even harder to escape ? Will he not resort to deadly tactics even sooner in the fight ?

The other part I really don't like about all this is, the politicians are taking every opportunity to make EVERYTHING a felony. The cynic in me believes that there are ulterior motives at play here.
