New York State Farm Directory launching in June '22​

The creation of the Farm Directory derives from Section 16(52) of the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law, requiring the Department to create a directory of every farm in New York State. Farms will be receiving a package in the mail shortly outlining the Farm Directory purpose, a survey to collect information on the farm to be included in the Directory, and a return envelope.

If you choose not to have your farm participate in the Directory, you are required by law to notify the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets of this decision by opting out. Farms may opt out by returning the provided survey or indicating it through the online survey linked at the website above.
Since not every farm offers products to the public at the farm site, each farm can indicate whether it is open to the public, or if there is another means that their farm product can be accessed. This might include listing a distributor, a brand name that your product is eventually marketed under, or a specific consumer-facing website where the public can determine where to purchase your product in a retail location. The information available on the directory for each farm can be tailored to meet the individual needs of each business and farmers will be able to update their information as desired.

I know of a few farms that don't advertise themselves as farms, nor do they play the game with taxes. They are what I call "low key" farms. Pretty much barter or all cash sales.

The Supreme Court could rule that Authorities, Bureaus, etc do not have dictatorial powers. If you have to comply with needless rules and regulations Congress has to pass a law.
Make Congress work again is what I call it.

I see where y’all are coming from but I’m chuckling at the level of paranoia. It’s literally a directory established by law by bipartisan agreement to promote New York agriculture with a trivial opt out. Any commercial farmer has to deal with reams of accounting and record keeping for state and federal tax compliance not to mention just business purposes to keep the ship afloat. Telling Ag & Markets to screw off with their directory with an opt out is the least of their worries.

The state and feds already know exactly where every farm in the country is. The public can already look up the parcel designation with the town and county clerk among other places. If you are opting out of any tax benefits for farmland and giving an enormous donation to Albany and Uncle Sam then I suppose you can run your garden without disclosing this and filing your directory opt-out, but if the boogie man is coming for all the farms I don't see how failing to file will help given all the relevant authorities have current aerial and satellite imagery and it’s a bit hard to camouflage farming at scale.

We have 150 acres of feed corn growing......not for human consumption.................another local farmer has regular high grade MJ planted now, under NYS LICENSE..........and he was not even a criminal.

We do not respond to such intrusive questionaires.... farm always looses money............I bet you did not know that you cannot dig a pond on your farm, or in any way change the grade of land, aside from plowing/planting/harvesting......................you have to do it on weekends or at night....frogs you know.

But it is legal to spray 1000 acres of tillable land with herbicide, and kill every living thing on those 1000 acres....frogs, toads, turtles, birds, geese, worms, bugs, squatters, and of course any green thing that was alive....looked like Agent OJ sprayed forests in Vietnam.
Not a peeper in the spring.........not a peep.

Yeah, that pond thing. I know of someone who dug a huge pond (really expanded) at night for their farm. Their standing comment was.. "Oh, it was that big, I just cleaned the muck out of it!" lol
