NYC Handgun Purchase Authorization

I haven't bought a handgun since 2009, so I'm not sure how it works nowadays. Please correct me or fill in my incomplete knowledge.

1. You can get the Handgun Purchase Authorization online now
2. you Fill it out and mail back to 1PP
3. They will look at it after about 4 -6 months and let you know if it is approved- you make an appointment to go to 1PP and pick it up.
4. you have 30 days to make the purchase
5. After the purchase you have 72 hours to get to 1PP to get the gun inspected and added to your license.

Questions: when you fill out the form, they ask for the make and model (#2 above). But after 4-6 months, the gun might not be available anymore- then what do you do? Also do you need another appointment to get the gun inspected (#5 above)

Yes, they do ask for the make, model and caliber. It used to be that they held you to the caliber that you originally put on the form, however now they just write "1 gun" on the Purchase Authorization, so you can pretty much get whatever you want as long as it's not a prohibited color or over 50 oz. if it's a semi auto.

Since COVID, they've changed the procedure and you will be emailed with an appointment (date and time) to pick up the Purchase Authorization (no more walk-ins). They're now giving you 60 days instead of 30 to make the purchase. Once you make the purchase, you need to email them a copy of the bill of sale, a copy of the completed Purchase Authorization, a copy of the front & back of your handgun license, and a photo of the gun.
Then within a few days, they will email you back with a date and time for you to bring the gun to 1PP for inspection.
