Hearing it will include all of Long Island and Lower Hudson Valley too since they already pay an MTA sales tax surcharge and are considered to be in the MTA region even though there is no MTA service in rural counties..

Typical Socialist totalitarian pabulum. If a business is failing, the government needs to help. NO! WRONG! Businesses succeed and fail in accordance with market forces. If the MTA needs more riders, then NYC should stop chasing people out of the city, stop closing city attractions, and do more to encourage ridership for the "business." Otherwise...end the MTA and all of its "services."

If they think its bad now, just wait until MTA fuel costs sky rocket after their current source disappears when FUAC's Indian Point closure hits home. No more a couple pennies a kilowatt for power and replacement market summer rates can exceed 10 times what they had been paying. Tick Tock.

I hold no animosity towards the Empire State Building, but it would tickle me to see the Observation Deck close due to lack of Visitors.

Pretty soon they'll have to PAY the Indians to take Manhattan BACK.

I highly doubt the $3 surcharge will change anything. I’d pay $3 to not hassle going anywhere on nyc. Won’t work or give MTA anymore riders and they know this. They just want a billion dollars pretty simple to figure out.

This is not even close to the beginning. Most of the extra fees and fines and surcharges, most people don't even see them. If they do see them; they ignore them and pay the bill.

In the Buffalo region, parking tickets not only went up in fine, but there is an added fee. These extra fees are a little way to offset the lack of revenues.

BTW, fuck the MTA. Charge the customers, the riders of this form of transportation more to use the service. Seems pretty simple.

It's the beginning... They're going to get real creative as discussed in other threads to help fund the failure of their ability to control expenditure and costs of the government they've been entrusted to by their constituents! Their simple answer is just get more $$$, not look at why the MTA is completely top heavy and ridiculously cost intensive to do anything primarily due to the bureaucratic complexity of the many levels of the agency. Ordering simple office supplies takes a dozen levels of approval, all designed to do what it actually fails at, ie, controlling costs. Each level justifying its own existence and preservation!

So yeah, just tax more... That works...

So yeah, ignore the MTA should be gutted!

So yeah, ignore why they can't do anything cost effective, and make up for the waste by just getting more $... to waste!

Mentally deficient!!! But this is what they're going to do, it's going to get worse... Oh boy, wait till all the Billions upon Billions, they can't even figure out how to distribute - needs to be paid for... Wait!

New York State has a number of taxes and fees added to services and merchandise and the State made it illegal for a manufacturer, utility, or service provider to divulge that tax or fee on the bill.

The State and Goverment are also famous for taxing each step of a production chain. On many products the cumulative impact of multiple income taxes, property taxes, fuel taxes and fees, utility taxes and fees, vehicle fees, registration fees, employment taxes, licensing fees, etc for each step in the production and retail chain may ultimately account for as much as one-half the purchase price.

I expect a "temporary surcharge" on NYS income tax in 2021; and like most "temporary" taxes it will not end.

We are still paying the "temporary" gasoline surcharge instituted post 9-11 in NY State to pay for security upgrades. The tax has surpassed it's sunset clause multiple times and schmuck Schumer last time noted that we are all "USED" to just paying it, and seeing that they could put it to good use, there really was no need to relax it... It's not paid for the original purpose in a decade... And it's still taxed and collected by the State!

This is just an example...

Anyone have some TEA? Lol
