NYC Special Carry

Anyone ever have any luck getting a Special Business Carry Permit out of the NYPD? (It’s the permit that validates your otherwise invalid non-nyc county permit in the city.)

I've been appointed executor of a rather large estate in NYC and will be going there often to catalogue, appraise, and eventually sell and/or distribute several millions of dollars in jewelry and artwork over the next year. I’m wondering if that is enough reason for the NYPD to let me carry.

Any experience or advice is welcome.

I had one once upon a time.....but that was almost 30 years ago, and it was only valid for 24 hours at a time. I used to be a courier of gemstones. I seriously doubt anyone can get one these days without <Ahem> shall we say....making a very large donation to someone's re-election campaign.

They’ve been denying renewals of people that had them for decades, without being a celebrity/friend of the mayor it is very unlikely for your application to be approved. At best if you have a strong case you can get a “limited business carry” that will be valid from Monday to Friday 8am to 5 pm for example. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

I would contact the office and talk with them. I know there is a ton of paperwork and hoops to jump through, but what might be able to happen and might be easier is if they can add that address to your premise permit some how so you can be armed while there. I don’t know a ton about it, but I know you need all sorts of paperwork and unless your carrying cash or expensive goods places I’ll bet it’s a no go.

As per some sources in several places with knowledge of this, all special NYC permits are on hold until the SCOTUS case is ruled upon. What is another 6 months for NYC anyways. We can only hope that the NY/NYC 'permiting process' dies a horrible, quick, and painful death.
