Well, many newer buildings have Gas Co-Generators because Con-Ed cannot supply enough power! And it's ridiculously efficient and not polluting, so not sure what the BS is all about! They generate excess power back to the grid as well and help with brown outs by not being entirely reliant upon Con-Ed's power. What do they propose, having solar panels on the South & SW side of a building it's entire length and no windows! Wait for it...

But because no one is useing gas there will be a gas glut, an over supply which will drive the price of gas down . At least in a free market economy. So this kind of tells ya where this is headed , government controlled pricing which worked great for the soviet Union. Just ask the people that defected .

Upon rereading your post, there are NOW electric meters that the power company can 'shed load' (shut you the fuq off) in large power users when they are not making enough power, for the greater good, of course.

Even if they do not go that far it gives authorities massively more control over power use. In states like california electricity rates can vary wildly during peak periods such as during the day. Connected thermostats could give finite control over usage which would be of interest to those who have to manage a potentially short-supply of electricity during a cold snap or something.
